Give it up - Evelyn "Champagne" King Fright Night Soundtrack sounds like Take me with u

Right, so watching an old horror movie from back in the day, and enjoying the eighties soundtrack.

The song is playing in a club and I am enjoying it (the song and the movie Fright Night) and suddenly the song morphs (much like a werewolf) into Take Me With U.

The time frame fits. I actually think the song is good and does enough to not be an issue (I ain't calling no web sheriff), I just wondered if anyone can hear the similarity and or had noticed this before?

I am not sure how to post the video, but I have provided the link hopefully, some help please.

Thanks.

Doesn't sound a thing like "Take Me With U" except some pseudo-strings.

Actually, the hook is very reminiscent of "You Can Be Mine" by Janet Jackson.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Firstly, thank you for posting the videos. I can see the comparison to the Janet song, which I had not heard before.

I should have said where the song sounds like Take Me With U. It is at .54-1.10 of the song Give it Up, but I was tired last night and truncated my post

The part in Take Me With U that it reminds me of is the part in Take me with U that goes

To be around you is so-oh right
You're sheer perfection (thank you)
Drive me crazy, drive me all night
Just don't break up the connection

Maybe I am reaching, but as I said in my original post I think this is a strong song that is original enough. It just felt like it nodded a little in Prince's direction. biggrin

I always loved that Janet song, but it remains hidden on the Control album.

To post a YouTube video get just the URL for the video. You posted a playlist URL. The bolded is all you need:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXwivZO7b6M&list=PLOOyo9hGjUmbJqYJoSpGBuNxTF-4TIlwu

Everything with and after the & symbol is superfluous stuff. You just need the watch?v=etc in the URL. That string of characters can vary greatly for a video's URL.

Type [ youtube ] URL [/ youtube ] (without any spaces) to post a video. You can always click Preview Post to be sure it's working before you Post Response.

You actually only need rXwivZO7b6M from the URL in those YouTube brackets for the video to post on here, like this:

[ youtube ]rXwivZO7b6M[/ youtube ] (without any spaces)

Hope that helps for future reference.

Thank you, that helps.

I should listen to those tracks that are buried in her earlier albums. When you combine Janet Jackson, and Jam and Lewis, and all of the people she worked with she has a nice discography. I like the Velvet Rope and the Rhythm Nation stuff, but should check out all her earlier stuff, b sides, remixes etc.

I really think that Janet's vocals make what is a good track better. It adds an organic and emotional balance against the synths. An album track for me, but a worthwhile one. biggrin

I hear a bit of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' synth-wise, although clearly there is no relationship. Also 'You Can Be Mine' (unrelated) and 'Stand Back'. I believe it is trying to capture a 'Break Out'-era Pointer Sisters vibe.

I agree, not the accompaniment but this melodic sequence :

'I'll give it up, yes sweet honey you win
Ooh I wanna give in to temptation
A fire's burning underneath my skin
That tells me stop the hesitation'

is very close to:

'I can't disguise the pounding of my heart
It beats so strong
It's in your eyes, what can I say
They turn me on'

and:

'Come on and touch the place in me
That's calling out your name
We want each other oh so much
Why must we play this game?'

..., etc.

I can hear the Pointer Sisters fell/sound. This song has grown on me. Even though the guitar is a little cliched, it is well done and suits the song. It is a good song that seem to be a nice patchwork of influences, and to me stands out well for a song buried in a film soundtrack, before soundtracks really became a thing (Rogers & Hammerstein, Grease and Purple Rain aside).

In fact is so obvious that I wonder if some of you need to have your ears cleaned lol.

Thank you, I was starting to doubt myself a little here. I think my error was not making it clear enough in the first post, but that is the link

While a bad copy of a song or singer is atrocious to hear, I am not mad at this borrowing. It is a nice melody and I am happy to hear it recycled in a song that is not a did copy (like a Florida sampled song would end up being). There is no longer a Prince, so anything that reminds me of him does my heart well to hear.

I often find myself hearing or seeing Prince in other artists' work too.

Whether it was him drawing inspiration from others or others drawing from him, it is always a welcome nod to me. smile

On an OT side note, the Brad Fiedel's score for "Fright Night" is one of my favourite movies' soundtrack.

The instrumental "Come To Me" track (and the derivations, excluding the vocal version which is married by a very awful vocal performance) is an haunting little masterpiece.

Watching the movie again was a different experience than watching it as a child/adolescent. It impressed on me that for a teen/young adult horror movie, it did a lot of things well including the balance of lighter teen enjoyable viewing and the smattering of horror to give the movie the modicum of edge. The soundtrack - song and score was well done, and though often this area of the filmaking can be compromised, I agree "Come to Me" has something special.
