MY NAME IS PRINCE : Exhibition at The O2 in London Part 2

The previous sticky self-locked.

The 02 exhibit is open. Housequake's FB page posted a video from Planet Slop from press day with a (albeit shaky) walkthrough. Beautiful items, and even a guitar I've never seen before in there. His jumper from the Brit awards performance (with Wendy, Lisa, & Sheila) is there, the Grammy's green trench from "Purple Rain" performance, the shawl/cape he wore to the Oscars or the premiere (I forget which one) and often wore during "Purple Rain" on the tour - all that is in there, plus a lot more.

The link above is to the video, FYI.

Planet Slop also said, in the comments, "We should say - this is just a teaser, many rooms we couldn’t film. More to see in person, worth a trip to London if you can! On till January."

Would love to know what merchandise they have - hopefully the books - but I guess that won't be on display properly until tomorrow...

Stacks of Merch. The three PP books (Fashion, guitars and bass, PP), posters, pins, tambourine and tamboracca, and loads of (fairly ugly imho) t-shirts.

As for the exhibition - it's absolutely wonderful. So well done. Thoroughly recommended.

They better have brought a stack of those books over with them. I'm not there until a week on Saturday and I want those really badly.

What's in the VIP rooms? I heard there was a white glove experience involving a guitar (hope it's not painful) and some more personal iterms like mirrors and soap. Anyway, more info would be great.

I am sure it's a great exhibition and I was planning to go. But just watching this video and seeing the very outfit he was wearing the night he brought me up onstage during the earth tour (the white kimono with blue/red trim) - and at the same venue as well - feels very emotional.

The VIP room is probably the worst bit. Some dull costumes and some more guitars.

Oh except we got to hold one of the guitars (this is the White Glove bit).

I sure wish they would do a tour of this across the States. Kansas City has Union Station who often puts on Exhibitions. The one they for Princess Di, was fabulous.

I would still love to see a video of the exhibit done a la David Bowie's awesome "David Bowie IS" which travelled the world and was filmed and shared by fans to those who couldn't see it in person. And that was an exhibition Bowie was involved in and actually attended before his untimely demise. I think that a Prince exhibition could be done equally well...

Just got back and it's so, so, so worth a visit. So many beautiful items of clothing with incredible details.

The highlight for me was handwritten scene ideas for Purple Rain, that never quite made the cut. They made me laugh so much, he describes characters with phrases like 'they are clearly not day people', kooky ideas with stethoscopes for Dr Fink and how he would play a 'tasteful' (his word!) sex scene, to avoid an R rating - can any US peeps explain what that is? Rated randy? Rampant?!

The notes name Vanity throughout, so must have been before the spilt. So poignant.

It was in purple ink, in a notebook with hundreds of scribbles. I desperately wanted to read them all. Seeing his beautiful French cursive and knowing he had held the pen made me well up.

There's also a guitar from the For You era, which he hand customised. So cool knowing that he literally stuck the fuzzy fabric on and wired lights - so talented in so many ways!

There's not much new knowledge for fans, but it's a lovely exhibit.

They have indeed brought the wall to the UK, and will be flying back the messages to PP. Worth noting that they can't take helium balloons because of the flying.

For those asking, the merchandise is pricey, but good. Ping pong balls, badges, pens, a few designs of scarf, guitars (gulp!), books and sportswear.

I didn't do VIP because of the cost, hope those who do enjoy it!
I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.

Ouch!! Were they that expensive at Paisley?

Glad they've got a some merch in but those t-shirts do look a bit pants. Oh well, I'll see what I fancy picking up on the day ... I'm heading there week Monday. Off to see Chic there tonight to, so might see if I can sneak in the shop.

This was from the VIP room today smile Also, the three books I bought were £35 each, so not exactly bargains but i'm not exactly going to PP anytime soon.

What it is?!?!

My friend and I are doing the VIP on Monday 6th too!

Look out for mad women in floaty, sequinned purple scarves!

Sooooooo excited - and a little apprehensive - about seeing his things. It's going to be emotional...
