Love it. I play this album more than Phase 2, AOA or PE.

(Insert something clever here)

that's what i used to think smile but after a while i got to appreciate it for what it is.

i view it as a bside/leftover album from the aoa sessions with a few new tracks in
there that prince felt strongly about (like hardrocklover which was a 'single').

apart from million $ show i listen to the album all the way through now and i do
enjoy it quite a bit. it's just a different vibe from prince.

however, those 4 songs i mentioned above are all instant classics for me. love

Love 1000 x's and o's, June. Like Shut this down (if I am in the right mood), think Hardrocklover is a flawed and incomplete potential masterpiece (that song live would have been badass), and X's Face is a bit too overproduced but still a great guilty pleasure. The rest of the songs are okay. I prefer AOA (that album is blissfully weird and a slow burn pleasure. Quirky, trippy, 2001- A Space Odyssey like vibe, but it is also poetic, moving and even personal.)

I really don't care much for this one. It's okay I guess. Seems like a one off diversion. There are some remixes of Art Official tracks, most of it comes across like an overblown parody of modern pop music and EDM cliches. I always get the feeling it was like a riff or a spoof on that theme. It's like the turd in the punchbowl between two killer releases.

Granted, 1000 X's & O's and June are pretty solid.

Phase Two however, holy mackrel, now we're talking... That one is a masterwork in my opinion.

Bob... Ain't dat a bitch?

I really like Hardrocklover, 1000 X's & O's and June but the rest is hit n miss to me.
.
Some tracks go from the sublime to the ridiculous or vice versa. Like This Could Be Us - the first half sounds comical with the stutters and sound effects but I like the guitar and bass on second half.

Does anyone know the exact connection between these two titles and the "hit and run" shows he did around the Parade era? Thanks.

I was at PP for the release party for this album and remember being very underwhelmed. It's grown on me somewhat, but definitely not a favorite.

Gotta include 1000 X’s and O’s on a best-of list for this album. I agree it’s sort of a “leftovers” album - but it certainly has a handful of gems.

Can't believe people who say it's actually a bad/terrible album! really? I've been buying his albums on release day since the early 80s and I always like to remember the initial feeling I get rather than pick out the tracks and Phase 1 had a real classic Prince album feel IMO.

The production by Josh was good and THis could be Us was a leve above the original, June is a proper Prince classic - sounds so Prince but like nothing else he's done and you can feel his emotion.

Overall a really good album and so glad glad this and Phase 2 were his last two gifts to us
