LoveSexy and Sign Era help.

If you have any snarky comments, or don't want to help, can you PLEASE just bypass this post. Like I posted previously I stepped away from being Prince obsessed, loyal, focused, after ATWIAD (sorry, hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me and help me); and honestly I'm getting the pictures from these two "eras" confused. If I post some pictures, can somebody post LS or SOTT? I've tried google and some of the pictures pop up for both eras. TIA

I'm thinking LS because of the Prince lettering on pants?

I thought polka dots were LS, then saw a picture in the other SOTT thread with him in Polka dots, so now I'm not sure.

This is during the LS era, but I've always wondered if the vest was from the Parade era/tour because he wore a black and white polka dot vest just like this during the ADWIAD/Parade tour. As for the other pics, the white suit with the black polka dots is from LS. The peach/tan suit with the black polka dots are from Sign "O" the Times, specifically from the pre-tour warm-up show at First Avenue, where he says at the beginning of the show, "This is a new friend, the polka dot suit," and where he calls himself "Dexter Poindexter, III." The black suit with the big white buttons are from LS, and one of the pics from that particular photo shoot was used for the cover of Musician Magazine, iirc. And, the yellow double-breast suit is from the Parade. I hope this helps.

YES!!! Thank you!!!! I'm usually able to figure out the eras by the length of his hair and the hair sytle; but they were somewhat similar on some photos. Thanks again

Easy.

Short cut -> Parade
Medium cut with satin laces on the sides -> SOTT
Long hair and either totally shaved, or badly in need of a shave -> Lovesexy

Honestly, you missed much more than mere haircuts, my friend.
It's about time you catch up.

Parade era, but during the Tour - mid 1986, the short hair look of very late 1985/early 86 was gone and he was growing it back. He wore this bright yellow zoot suit along with a red one on the Parade tour. The suit also appears on the cover of the Mountains single (Released June/Aug 1986).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Stop rubbing it in (I thought you were one of the nice orgers smile ). I've basically given up trying to catch up, wayyyyyy to much, it's like a fulltime job. Seriously though, his appearance and styles assist me with connecting the eras and going back to see what I've actually missed; and for whatever reason these two eras are converged in my mind.

So since his hair is long and there is no ribbon, I'm thinking it's not SOTT. Is that a correct assumption?

It’s neither era ... this is from 1999 (TV interview with Larry King).

Perhaps even more of a clue is having "lovesexy" written down the left sleeve?

I've always loved this image.

I always thought of this image as a little confusing! It shouts SOTT but is also very Lovesexy.

On the NPGMC Musicology Digital Store, this image was used for a live download for Strange Relationship recorded at First Avenue in 1987.

This certainly does show a progression from SOTT to LS. The yellow was also very SOTT, borrowed from the Parade era. I don't remember LS being very yellow. That had a lot of blues and whites.

lol

Love it, love it, love it!

I wish I was there on the photo shoot!

I think I would have just sat near Prince drawing lines dot to dot.

I'm sure Prince wouldn't have been happy about this but I don't think I could have resisted!

Wow, well spotted!!!!!

I turned up the brightness on my computer and this certainly made the lettering much clearer.

Maybe Prince should have labelled all of his clothes LOL - it would make this much easier LOL!

It's obvious that's from the LS era! I think that the picture was shot by jeff Katz...He should release as well a book...

It's a great picture.
Prince's right arm always seemed weird to me in this one, but looking closer now
I can see the light casting a shadow. I always thought "how skinny can the MF with the high voice be?" biggrin

Jeff Katz outdid himself. I always loved his work, I think he's the best portraitist Prince ever had.
There is a quality about his work, same with Laura LiPuma, it's just spot on.

SOTT is not only Prince's masterpiece. The concert program is fantastic.
Laura LiPuma letterings are fantastic.
(Le)Roy Bennett scenery and lighting, well, it looks extraordinary on film, but believe me,
seeing it in person, it was nothing short but miraculous.
And the sound! Quadraphonics or something, it filled the arena up until the last row.
It's a shame the soundboard bootlegs sound so dry,
but probably because the sound engineers used the natural reverb of the venues.

Bill Konersman, Scott Bergman and Clayton Whitney Jr. did
what I consider one of the best videos of all time for the title track.

Back to the image, it is in fact taken from the 1st Avenue SOTT warm-up concert,
audio and video are circulating, and is known amongst fans as "4 Those Of You On Valium",
which refers to the phrase Prince said for introducing himself to the audience,
after having introduced his new band line-up, a big deal after the Revolution disbanding.
This was their first public concert.
And it has of course the legendary "Strange Relationship" performance you mentioned.
