the only real good thing was that big ass ATWIAD backdrop love that was cool.

as for the rest. i think it should be clear by now that most really well known prince
songs can't really be performed by anyone else without coming off as second rate
tribute act karaoke snooze/cringefests.

it's part of what made prince so unique. pulling of the clothes, the hair, the whole
stage presence. no one else has that, not like prince did anyway. you simply can't
recreate that, no matter what the budget is.

so if they want to honour prince, they should play his concerts. someone needs to
start making more of his shows available on the major platforms, soon.

That's why I always supported Prince until the very end. It's now, after he's gone, that folks are realizing how irreplaceable he is.

I thought Empire was going to do the tribute differently and throughout the show, but oh well.

I didn't watch the episode I have only seen the preview clip and the interview with the director who worked with Prince on the Musicology video and others. I personally give her props for using back drops from some of his music videos and having the characters dress from the different eras and thinking of a way to incorporate and acknowledgement him; even if they got it not exactly correct and even if it was "corny". they honored him in their own way, which I applaud. Maybe, just maybe, the episode would get one person, who previously wasn't interested in Prince, to see something that piques their curiosity and they start down a road and end up discovering the many facets of his catalogue and life. Ahhhh, but I forget, a few people on here really don't believe new fans are necessary and others are never satisfied.

There's no way that the estate won't do this; maybe they just need time to get some of the more immediate, pressing issues taken care of first.

I wasn't really expecting much because it's Lee Daniels and I hate him, so.....

It would have been okay to do it as a Prince themed costume party to welcome Lucius back, but it doesn't work as a party for a one year old.

Tyka and Mr. Hayes making a cameo and perhaps having a convo with Cookie and Lucius about Prince's legacy would have sounded more authentic.

Hannah could have left her corny husband at home. lol

I could have written the episode a lot better.

agreed..

wish it was done very differently.. but HEY, what did Prince once say, anyone playing me, just ends up playing themselves.

They all need to give it a rest, No one can "recreate" Prince.

Y'all go home and watch Elmo or something.

Empire did not do a tribute, imo,.. it was wierd, to tell you the truth

It was okay for what it was. But for serious fans it wasn't fulfilling. It was watching very rich people having a themed party for a baby. I liked the most, that people dressed in different eras of his career that was a nice touch and that some put their little touch to those looks. Nice to know his peers are thinking about him and want to keep his legacy going and those that aren't that familiar with his work getting a taste. As an overall casual observer, a quick glance is all that's really needed, then move along.

It was alright. I like the fact that Empire paid tribute to him. It was interesting that Empire used a birthday to pay tribute to him since he didn't celebrate birthdays.

.

The backdrop was cool. I liked the different Prince-inspired outfits. I thought Bella looked really cute in her 1999-era purple jacket and white blouse.

Go 'head Jamal, with the Lovesexy inspired outfit! (He doesn't quite pull off the long hair and heels, but I love the blouse and tie!) I appreciate the thought, though. I love guest star AzMarie Livingston's "Mountains"-inspired outfit.

it was okay...not really a themed episode it was just something tacked onto the end very fast... seemed rushed and not really all that interesting.

I did like the HUGE ATWIAD album cover blow up! I did like how they had a wide range of Prince looks covered... I did not like the choice of songs... sorry but songs about death and how PILLS kill make me sad and by singing them people that did not know him ...i do not know... i just did not like it...

Exactly. They even mentioned that P did not celebrate birthdays, so why a birthday themed party? It could have been a welcome back party for Lucius since Terrance Howard is a huuuuge Prince fan.

I thought that Cookie had the best costume though.

I just mentioned on the topic I made up that I ain't never heard Terrence say nothing about Prince. All I ever heard was attended one of those post Oscar parties that Prince held, but so what! Teraji on the other hand, went all out on her instagram and twitter accounts when Prince passed and I know she attended some of his concerts. Now that's a FAN. Also Cookie was at Bella's "Prince birthday party, but Luscious wasn't?! Hmm.

nod Cookie certainly had the best outfit. The chick with the "Mountains" inspired outfit came in 2nd with Jamal coming in at 3rd with the Lovesexy outfit. I liked that they had the characters wear costumes from his different eras and that the producers/director was showing appreciation for him, but in all honesty, the whole scene came off as random, forced and out of sync. Hakeem doing the moonwalk at a Prince inspired party was straight up silly as well as the mention that Prince didn't celebrate birthdays YET this party was an actual birthday party. I didn't take it too seriously but still, I noticed. lol

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't follow celeb's social media so that doesn't mean anything to me. I only heard him speak about Prince as an artist in interviews, that's what I mean by fan. I doubt they were bffs because TH is not exactly a friendly person.

Everybody and their housecat was going on about Prince on fuckbook and twitface when he passed whether they actually were a fan or not so I can say the same.....so what?

Agreed. The whole segment was awkward and clumsy.

I liked the Mountains costume but Jamal, who agruably should have been the one to nail it, effed up with that horrid wig. lol

Hakeem should have been left out of it altogether.

nod Exactly. If Jamal would've performed "Let's Go Crazy" by himself, perhaps it would've been less horrid. With Hakeem added to the mix making those horse noises and again with that damn moonwalk made the whole thing seem corny as fuck. Then add Tyka's cameo into the mix and it just becomes a whole situation of "why Lord, why?"

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

You never get any hours back. Time doesn't work that way.

Reminds me of the people who add up wasted time and think that somehow they'd get it all back in one lump sum if they hadn't wasted it. Like people who have to drive 1 hour to get to work and 1 hour to get home. They'll tell you that if they didn't have to do that, then each year they'd have an extra 9 days of time they could do something with.

No, they wouldn't. They'd have an extra hour in the morning and hour in the evening, every day.
