That was the story for a lot of folks. Came as Rick fans and left as Prince fans. Still, we can only hope that one day great video and audio of those shows are released.

the truth, i only have their stories of what it was like, but i am grateful for that!!!

*

I guess that's why it is somewhat important that some of the older audio and video makes it to the public. Folks who didn't get a chance to experience it can do so now. I've been on the fence about when and how older stuff should be released. But, my memories of Prince as the soundtrack of my childhood, teen, and early adult years will be treasured for life. I'm sad he's gone, but I'm so grateful that I got to see that seed sprout and blossom and then continue to re-blossom over and over again.

I get your point, but my signing sounds like someone is strangling cats in a potato sack. Even when I was in the church youth choir--because when you are young that make you do something--the choir director made a point to tell me, "Young man, the Bible says we are to make a joyful noise to the Lord. In your case, clapping and humming will be as joyful as it gets." I would have been offended, but I only joined the choir because they wouldn't let me join the junior deacons because one Sunday before communion I drank most of the grape juice and ate most of the crackers. I know I was wrong, but black church services last all day, and I was hungry as hell. Anyway, I get your point; I just make it a point not to sing so loudly. Speaking of bad and loud signing, does anyone else ever get the feeling when they are listening to a live bootleg that the same terrible singing fan seems to follow Prince around the globe and manage to get on most of the bootlegs? Maybe it's just me.

[Edited 10/10/17 15:46pm]

falloff I love your stories lol

...And yes, I have actually noticed that same loud voice on live recordings of Prince shows before.
I know there were a few fans who followed him everywhere around the world... If that's true, I wonder where they got all their money from.

Plenty of info there, thanks 1725topp!

Were you present at any of these shows (or perhaps one of the lucky ones)?

[Edited 10/10/17 6:55am]

I was there both nights. One of the fans invited onstage was actually a backup singer from a Brazilian band called Blitz. They danced over his piano and it was so cool. Obviously he didn´t know her and seemed surprised she was dancing nicely to the rhythm.

[Edited 10/10/17 16:34pm]

cool I have goosebumps just watching clips of these shows... It must have felt really incredible to be there!!

It was "I Would Die 4 U" and "Baby, I'm a Star." There's a great story about how Prince waited until the very last minute to confirm that he was coming and going to perform. And, he requested a boatload of passes for all the folks he was bringing. I don't remember the details, but it was, basically, Prince being Prince. Also, I remember being very angry at this one music critic who discussed Prince almost hitting himself in the face with the microphone, saying "James Brown never hit himself with the microphone." Years later, I remember watching Brown live do this amazing spin and then reach to catch the mic but dropping it. But, like all professionals, Brown had a great line. He stated, "I apologize to all the women in the audience. I try to treat my mic like I treat my women...with tender love and care." Of course, since we all know that Brown committed domestic abuse, that line isn't as cool. But, still, it just goes to show that, when people (critics) provide these outlandish critiques, most of those critiques are just that--outlandish.

me too!!!!!!!!!!!! "prince" was my first album in 1979, i still have it.

and get this my other brother saw the show(and got that first album for me there) with just Prince in Burleson Texas in 1979, at what i want to

say was like a Best Western ballroom thing, my brother said something like that. He said it was just

him up there "showing out" on his guitar. i am guessing he had a band with him, but my brother

didn't say, i'll ask him again and i'll ask if any fans got up on stage back then.

and thank goodness my brothers taught me how to take care of my albums, and not leave it in the sun. his music ushered me through my entire life. so so grateful to see the seed sprout too!!!

all of it is a blessing!! I clearly remember being in the living room it was near a holiday and

he gave me the album, with this guy with no shirt and he said "your gonna like this".

I've not noticed the bad singer you mention but if I *EVER* meet the moron that brought the whistle to the Wembley show in '86, I'm gonna have something to say! And that something will be, "A whistle is never, ever, EVER an improvement to anything!"

Oh dear Jesus yes, beat that whistling-blowin' fool down. Okay, so maybe Jesus won't approve of a beat down, but maybe just a brief choking?

Some of my best memories are of my parents, uncles, aunts, and cousins introducing me to new art. (I’m the oldest of my siblings so I was the one exposing them to art.) And, your brother's memory is one of the best. Prince jamming in a hotel—now, that's the kinda stuff I'd like to see get to the public.

You know us Prince fans...it's purple music before food with some of us. In fact, purple music is our food. Thinking of that, I actually spent my high school years spending my lunch money on books and records. One time, when I spent my lunch money on Purple Rain, a couple of .45s, and one book, and didn't have any lunch money left for the month, my grandmother was horrified about me not eating at school, especially since I was an athlete who didn't arrive home from school until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. most days. My grandmother, as angry as she could be, demanded of my mother, "How you gon' just let that baby be hungry all day with no lunch?!?" To which my mother replied, "Well, he better go in there and see how Purple Rain tastes 'cause that's what he spent his lunch money on." My mother was cold-blooded.

Man, I'd be so damn sleepy Sunday morning after partying all night Saturday. And, then, one Sunday, my mama gon' have the preacher bust me out in church while he was preaching, "You can't run with the wolves on Saturday night and come up in here and lay down with the lambs on Sunday morning!!!" and at the end of that statement he actually called my name, like I was the only person in church trying to catch a few zzzzz. Well, okay, maybe it wasn't a good look for me to be catching them zzzzz up in the choir stand. God, I couldn't wait to graduate high school so I could go to college and become a proper and well-rested heathen. And, then, just when I got my sinning all perfected, I ended up right back in church.

Yes, you are right. Those stages were filled with folks, dancing off beat and trying to take a souvenir from the stage. During one of the 20Ten shows, you can see two people actually stalking Shelia E to get her drum sticks. Of course, no one takes the cake like that lady during the Philadelphia 1996 show!!! My eyes, my eyes, I can't get the image from my eyes!!! Yet, with all of that craziness and foolishness happening, Prince was ever cool and funny.

Years later, I remember watching Brown live do this amazing spin and then reach to catch the mic but dropping it.

Never be another time like this.
Those are majority of other stars dancing on stage

Grace Jones front and spinning center lol

Back then at those shows people from various musical genre were cheering each other on.
They came from a very different time when you really had to work to be a star. People from the 60s 70s really rejoicing in the 80s

I remember reading that on The Arsenio Hall show in 93 after inviting the audience onstage his mic gun was stolen and he wouldn't carry on until it was returned.
.
On the broadcast there's a cut and you see the audience leaving the stage near the end of The Max and you don't see Prince again. The credits roll with Mayte dancing with Tony, Damon and Kirk.

You are dead on with this. Today, especially at the Grammys and AMAs, folks act all too cool for school. But, like you said, game recognizes game, and those are actually artists on that stage dancing with Prince and giving up the funk to one of their peers. And, I just knew that Grace Jones was gon' get buck wild if not buck naked! Damn, I miss those days!!! I know I'm just a grumpy ole man, but it's just too painful to watch most of these god-awful award shows today.

Thank you! I could have actually guessed from the dancing pace that 'Let's Go Crazy' would have made them dance a little faster lol. Your further comments just reminded me of that video of a 1983 show when James Brown, Michael and Prince are all sharing the stage and having a bit of a dance off, and when it's Prince's turn he gets so hot after playing his guitar that he takes his top off then does a few stunts with the mic whilst showing off his muscles and disappears into the audience and pulls the fake street light deco down with him lol It's all very messy but the musicians in the background just keep the jam going and the funk is just incredible... To think these were the three most professional artists of all time - notwithstanding the occasional dropped mic - and they're all gone...

Could all this have something to do with your raiding the church for crackers? lol

First, I must do the obligatory Prince.org response of "That's a fake video; it never happened." If you've been on the org long enough you get that joke.

Next, I both love and hate that clip. I love it for everything that you said, but I hate it because Prince almost makes an ass of himself from trying too hard. Brown inviting Jackson on stage is a tradition of what artists did in the past to recognize, celebrate, and, in that case, pass the torch from elder to new king, pardon the pun. So, when Jackson insists that Brown invite Prince on stage, Jackson is extending that history and camaraderie to Prince, inviting him into the family legacy of great African-American musicians. Yet, Prince, probably because of his highly competitive nature, just seems to be doing too much for that moment. Don't get me wrong; I'm team Prince all the way. But, I just cringe whenever I see it. Of all the things that Prince has done to set people off on this site, that's the only thing Prince has ever done that caused me to think, "Dude, chill out and sit down." And, what makes it bad for me is the look that Brown has on his face when Prince is playing the guitar. Brown seems to be thinking, "Dat boy is good!" But, Prince, wanting to impress one of his heroes while upstaging Jackson, goes from "Dat boy is good" to "Dat fool 'bout to tear up my stage." The only thing missing from that clip is Prince yelling, “Sexy Chocolate!!!” as he disappears into the audience while riding Big Chick’s back. But, hey, gotta love our man. In fact, the fact that Prince is batshit crazy is why I love him so.

Well, much of the trouble in my life has been caused by food, women, and religion. And, sadly, not much has changed. I'm just blessed enough to have a wife who merely shakes her head and leaves the room when I do something really stupid. And, now that I think about it, it's time for dinner. Later y'all.

This doesn't surprise me at all. It always worried me to see so many fans around Prince like that.

Yeah, and I thought he was going to cause a riot during the First appearance on TAHS, when he slid into the audience baseball style after performing "Daddy Pop." If you look closely, you can see security creeping toward the pile and Arsenio with a look of cautious fright, like "Oh, Lawd, don't let Prince get crushed on my show."

What a cool performance that was! And yes, that dive in the hysterical audience did look risky. Funny how Prince always seemed in his natural environment whilst surrounded by fans though and never seemed to mind the crazy people that much.

When a fella can say that about himself,he often has been, raised right, has earned himself a great woman, and I'm betting those times of stupidity are rare.
