Does anyone know about this photo? Why is he so covered up with thick gloves? Was it really cold?

This is his Tora Tora period where he would not speak to anyone and had Mayte speak for him.
This was during the period where he was performing new material (outside of WB) EXODUS album 1994

I think being masked was probably restful in a large way.
To be out yet shielded. I know I wouldn't want to be made to be veiled
But some days the option would be nice.

So true. And that knife cuts both ways - Protection and Deception. Smile face, frown face masks. Theater symbols and yet they are evident in real life too. In New Orleans there is a law on the books that masking is only permitted at Mardi Gras. Covered and sensual - you are whoever you want to be. Or, maybe I'm gonna die right now - think rapists, robbers and the KKK, 100% masking their identity for terrible reasons.

If your last December came, what would u do?

Feathers are not cheap. Each bead is hand sown, no glue guns. The process of making "The Suit" is part of the spiritual participation in the practice and takes most of the year. There is a ritual that goes on regarding how you honor the Big Chief of any tribe. In my case, the Golden Eagles Big Chief Monk Boudreaux.

Mardi Gras 2018

those eyes!!!!!! great example of how mardi gras tradition is heavily influenced in his work.

i wonder how his mother decorated the home. my mom was into italiante furniture. lots of

statue style lamps and marble cherubs and paintings of that sort. funny thing about the Lovesexy

cover i never thought it was sexy or flattering cause i think it reminded me of those

naked cherbs statues in my childhood home and i was like why would he want to resemble a fat little

baby. remember those crazy dripping oil lamps with the goddess in the center that as a kid you always wanted to touch. it is amazing how the things we grow up seeing really become a part of our

fiber. I think the nods to his New Orleans roots are huge and serve as the formative heart place from which he

saw other connections.

It is very interesting how your comments also connect with the other thread as well (about Ancient Rome/Greece etc).

Yes, that's interesting. I'd love to find out more about it.

that clown in this scene always made me ?

Perhaps the clown is there to remind the viewers about the 'comedic' aspect of the film, and maybe as a reference to the three clowns incarnated by Charlie Chaplin...
Also note that the clown is wearing the Pierrot outfit (combining elements of the funny/sad characters as in tragi-comedy).

I love stuff like this.
It is a strong infusion of Native-America & African cultures with the French Catholicism unfused around it all

The costumes Native connection look a lot like the Brazilian festivals too and both have a strong Aztec Meso-American connection.

Yep. That is why I posted these Cherry Moon, there are many. dove

The suits are worn for one year only in the Mardi Gras parading tradition and a new one is made for each year. The suits can be used for performance and other events so it is not set in stone. Sometimes the beaded panels are stripped out and used in future suits but it is tribe to tribe if that is OK. The Mardi Gras Indian Chief comes out of his house on Mardi Gras morning and greets his followers/second line with the new colors for the year that have been kept secret. (I have done this)
