I can't help but feel after listening to this song again (long version with Prince on vocals) that Prince had that sinner vs. saint; salvation vs. damnation; sex vs. romance; love for one another vs. hate, and other themes DOWN in songs like this one...to a point of perfection--just the right tension, just the right balance, and the infectious music to go with it. Or maybe you had to be from that time... Every time I hear this song I have to stop what I'm doing and dance my ass off... Literally. Totally energizing and forward-moving. Thanks, Prince! What other songs do you think are in this vein, have this effect on you?

I'm with U 100% on the Dance Electric.
Since God(vocal) was already connected. Prince & the Revolution should have released this one.
It is like a herald of an acculmination of Party Up - Purple Rain and so connected to ATWIAD.

It has a similar struggle but more on an inner/personal level.

It is dealing with loneliness and the need for love. The love of God connected to a core need 4 'self love' via masturbation. The fear of desperation and lust that comes with the night time brings in a heightened sense of loneliness.
