Did Mike Tyler, an alleged criminal identified as "a guitar player who has worked with Prince", really work with Prince?

A musician named Mike Tyler is charged with raping a boy -- http://www.phillymag.com/n...sted-rape/ -- and a lot of the reporting mentions his work with other artists, including Prince. Some even call him a "former Prince guitarist" in their headlines, e.g. here and here!

.

Except, I cannot find any evidence of him actually having worked with Prince.

.

There's this equally vague mention in a linked article:

.

Guitarist Mike Tyler, who performed with Prince here, praised his ever-evolving commitment to social justice citing his most recent work written about the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore.

.

And that's literally all Google can find anyway.

.

On the Org, there's another vague mention in this thread:

.

A guy named Mike Tyler says he was in a band with LeMans & Kravitz that had a deal on the table with A&M.

.

But is this even the same man? It's not like "Mike Tyler" is a unique name.

.

Can anybody recall more about this man and how he's supposedly connected to Prince?

.

It sure doesn't look like it. At least he didn't do anything significant enough to be called Prince's guitar player. "Performed with Prince" could be as simple as being at the same venue. Not one mention of him on prince vault.

I saw this and I could find no connection to with the exception of the "Mike " that was associated with Kravizt. I am not sure why Prince's name was even put into the article.

(Assuming it's the same guy), here's his 'story': https://www.youtube.com/w...f8l4JB_HWs

As indicated in one of the threads above, he's from Philadelphia. The one link above says that he says he performed with Prince in Philly, but I can't trace any show where he has been identified as appearing with him.

No mention of Prince in the film - there's footage of him performing with LL Cool J etc and Pearl Jam, and he alludes to having performed with / met ( no specifics given) Billy Joel and Mariah Carey in passing. But no Prince reference that I could pick up in the film.

The Youtube film also refers to him being known as 'Da Colonal' (?) and there is a Youtube account for Col. Mike Tyler - same guy - who has uploaded quite a few videos (inc. Jesse Johnson performing in Philly in 2011). Its possible that he might tell his 'Prince story' on one of those videos.

Truth is that any musician who did as much as dancing on stage for two minutes with someone of Prince's stature, or playing three notes on a guitar for them in the studio on a single occasion, will write on their resume that they have "played with Prince". it's a bit far fetched a statement, but to be honest I'd probably do the same if I was a professional musician trying to make a living lol

Sure, but now news organisations are identifying him as a "former Prince guitarist". You'd think those organisations would think twice before linking celebs to criminals based on unbased claims made by said criminals.
