Hatrina's First Ever Labor Day Weekend Prince Emancipation Appreciation Party

Of the last 72 hours, I've been literally busting my ass making it do what it do, as I've always done for me and mine. My intention was to come home, take a shower and kick it a little bit for the fun of it on the internet...until I was pooped out enough to just fall asleep.

But apparently that was just not to be the case, because I was just fucking flabbergasted by a post on FB by someone that claims EVERYTHING on "Emancipation" is their LEAST favorite, of Prince's ENTIRE catalog of work.

Now I'm way entirely too...

tenor.gif

to go to sleep.

Since I honestly cannot believe that person ever actually heard the songs on "Emancipation"...

this is something that must be done ...and damn it... after watching what's pathetically happened since 04-21-2016...I no longer have any qualms about showing off the Prince I know and love...with no damn apologies!

Hmm, somebody sent me a Prince Mega Mix which made my day after a rough week and a tooth that went bad suddenly (of course on a holiday weekend!) razz So I get you. There are so many good jams on Emancipation; no need to apologize for what you like! I always loved "Somebody's Somebody." heart

I sat and listened to Emancipation a few months back, reading all the Lyrics along with

absorbing the emotions in Princes Voice..

he really really loved Mayte at one point in time...

while there is often controversy around which song was written for which girl,

Soul Santuary, Sex In the Summer,The Holy River, Dreamin bout U,

Friend Lover Sister Mother/wife

all definately written about Mayte and WOW...

he really had a special feeling for her....

Its a stunning Album....

Emancipation is one of my most favorite Prince albums! You can just hear the joy in his voice on every track here. He had so much to be happy about at this point in his life: his contract with WB was null and void, he was married to Mayte who he loved immensely and he was going to be a father. There's so much joy everywhere on this album. Plus, it's got some of the most kickin' joints he ever recorded!

Soul Sanctuary is my most favorite.

I have pretty mixed feeling about this album. The tracks that Hatrina picked out are some of my favorites on the album. Plus throw in Soul Sanctuary, Holy River, Emancipation, and Let's Have a Baby. Now you've got a good single disc (ah, the age old emancipation debate). The problem is that those tracks are swamped by an equal # of tracks that are either bad songs, bad production, or both. It's hard to overcome a bunch of songs like We Gets Up, Jam of the Year, Mr. Happy, and so on.

I remember my first listen, I had my headphones on and I was sitting there smiling. My sister asked me what I was smiling about? And I told her that "Prince is totally, head over heels in love." She asked, "How do you know?" and I said, "Because I can hear it, in his voice." Of course she rolled her eyes and walked away but I knew and when I listen to those songs now, I still hear it.

That's why i love Emancipation. Seven of Haterina's tracks I would ditch, and of the four you list, only Holy River and Emancipation make the cut for me.

I'm so glad that we got everything we did with this set because each and every one of us would have a different single disc of 12 tracks. I love Emancipation.

RIP sad

I think this albulm produced differently would change most fans minds as to how good this album truly is. Just imagine if it where produced with the Sign O the times album sound? It suffers from producing choices-but that's my opinion. I still think it's the last solid work from Prince until RC.

Interesting. Is that because of what happened to the baby or because of the song itself? I wasn't a big fan the first time I heard it, but it grew on me after two or three listens. It's not a song that I seek out, but I enjoy it when it comes on.

Sometimes I wonder what folks are like who love songs that I find to be meh or not good at all. They probably have very different tastes than me in music overall. Prince fans are an interesting group.

Definitely what happened. Just thinking about it makes me cry, especially now that I've read Mayte's book. sad

Also he wrote Let's Have a Baby for her. He didn't write Betcha By Golly Wow, but the video makes it crystal clear that he sang BBGW for Mayte.

Emancipation has a great batch of songs. I never really understood the disapointnent that some people felt about that album.

There's two songs from Prince that can pretty easily make me cry. One is I Hate U. And the other one is The Love We Make.

Anyway, in looking back at Emancipation, i get what Kewlschool said about how most people maybe would view it different, had it been produced different.

Overall though, i love the album. I think it has some real nice melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

.
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
