Do you think we'll ever see the deleted scenes from Purple Rain?

I only read about two scenes that have been deleted, maybe I am wrong. But it's that sex scene with P and Apollonia and a fight scene.

Do you think we'll ever see them? I wonder what this fighting scene was about.

It's probably about a scene with Apollonia 6 rehearsing at the warehouse while Morris day and the time watch.then Prince comes in and trys to take Apollonia away with him but jellybean steps in. In one of the trailers for purple rain you can see Prince grab Apollonia by the arm in the warehouse

According to the director the footage was destroyed.

When did he say that?

He said it on the 2004 Purple Rain DVD. The second disc has a short documentary and he discusses the movie. He also said he was not making a porno film and the movie was never going to get an X rating.

I'm sure it's out there somewhere. Questlove claims to have seen the full 2+ hour version with all the deleted scenes in it.

Who knows. If the negatives don't exist, somebody is bound to have some workprint tapes with that stuff on it.

Albert Magnoli never said that, at least on the commentary or supplemental features on the DVD as Laura has stated. His only mention to anything being lost or “destroyed” pertains to the original camera negatives for the “the matter with this house…” scenes. For those particular shots (after the Kid pushes his father), footage from a workprint had to be used which explains the darker quality.

I’ve listened to that commentary countless times and he never mentioned anything about cut scenes being destroyed. That said, I believe there’s still a possibility those scenes exist.

Hey, we got the alternate beginning to UTCM.

Well Albert said they do not exsist.

One can only hope. What boggles me is that there have been interviews/roundtables with Mr. Magnoli and the other filmmakers and, to my knowledge, no one has asked if the cut scenes still exists. Yes, he's debunked the myth of an actual x-rated version of the film, but nothing about the availability of the cut scenes.

He states this on the 2004 DVD.

He states this on which special feature and/or during what time during the commentary? I'll be sure to check it out when I get home.

There are a few deleted or cut scenes featuring Jill Jones. If I'm remembering correctly there is a scene where she is talking to another waitress at 1st Ave about her crush on Prince and the waitress is telling her to "move on"
Also the scene at the end of the movie where she is crying was extensively cut. The original scene is much better. I thought she was great in it.

It has been a long time since I looked at it but I believe it is on the voiceover.

I don't know if those were filmed. But there is a lot of script that did not make the film.
There are parts with Fink and Z joking with Jill.
I do think though there is a film part of Wendy & Lisa having a kiss. But I don't remember that in the script. I could have just been a visual.

When & where did you see them? Was it recent? What was the source of the footage? Workprint VHS, test screening, over Prince's house? Just hanging on what little hope I have to see these one day.

I'm not sure if he has the full uncirculating movie, but he said in an interview that he saw it. He's also claimed to have heard the original "When Doves Cry" with the bass intact.

The movie moves so fast, there are so many other scenes they could have added in.
.
the Warehouse fight would have been a good addition because it fills in the gap to the tension already added onscreen. along with a scene where the Kid sees Morris Day visit Apollonia's place

.

I think the Barn scene could have still be done( I always wonder what the music for that scene would have been: If the Kid Can't Make U Come maybe?)

.

the Wednesday scene

.

And the addition of more the band talking in.teracting in the club/wJJ
