Albums you bought just for one Prince song?

Not official Prince projects like The Time, Vanity 6, etc. but other people's records

Some I can remember for me:

Ready to Wear

Paula Abdul

No Doubt (basically)

Jesse Johnson

Y'all?

Larry Graham's Raise Up, was $2, haven't listened to it. Haha.

Bought Janelle Monae's Electric Lady as Prince was a guest. Glad I did, awesome record.

Bought other albums just coz P showed interest in the the artist. Harts and Lianne La Havas to name 2.

Kenny Rogers album

a Paula Abdul album

Bright Lights Big City

USA for Africa

1 800 New Funk

that Madonna album with the 1 Prince song

I bought The Last Dragon for the one Vanity song. ...

....I'm sure I am forgetting some.

I would have bought the Ani Difranco cd regardless, cuz she is awesome. And I might have bought Kate Bush's Red Shoes album regardless.

[Edited 8/23/17 15:45pm]

I forgot about Dale Bozio and that awful Celine Dion album!

Parade. I heard Anotherloverholeinyourhead and had to get the album. I had forgotten Kiss was on it. Of course, in time I came to appreciate the album in its entirety as well as the movie.

Bright lights, big city (has become my all time favorite soundtrack!)
Pret-A-Porter

Blank Man
Bamboozled

1-800-NEW-FUNK
Happy Feet
Power of soul: A tribute to Jimi Hendrix
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame volume 1 (both black and purple vinyl copies)

Only the Bright Lights Big City soundtrack and the We Are The World charity album. I didn't care enough about the ones that came out later. Songs like "Purple House" and "The Song Of The Heart" I still don't have to this day.

IIRC, that would be it; I bought it on cassette when it came out.

Pretty sure it would be zero for me.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Here in Austria the film plus the soundtrack were called "Pret-a-porter", maybe in the US it was Ready to wear?

I was listening to the full soundtrack just today for the first time and actually really enjoyed it - so i take my comment about regretting it back. The disc is full of nice mid-90s club and pop songs. "Get Wild" is one of the weakest cuts on the disc. That is even more obvious as it is followed by the great "Supermodel Sandwich" by TTD, which is a classic in my book.

We Are The World album
Blankman soundtrack
Ready To Wear (Pret A Porter) soundtrack
Happy Feet soundtrack
Downloaded 2045: Radical Man from iTunes, so didn't buy the whole album

I'm a Hendrix fan, so I probably would've gotten Power Of Soul anyway, but the driving force was to get Prince's "Purple House".

I'm also a No Doubt fan, so I would've gotten their album anyway, but Waiting Room was a driving force to get that album sooner.

I used to rent the VHS of Sheila E's concert just to have the closing A Love Bizarre with Prince and The Revolution guest-starring. Does that count?

Most of them with just one Prince song on 'em. I mean I didn't buy Celine Dion because I would have gone to hell for that (I'm petty sure) but hell... Kenny Rogers???!! Louie Louie?!! Yeah, I went pretty low. Actually when after ripping it to MP3 at the dawn of the computer age I tried to resell the Kenny Rogers CD: the guys at the record store laughed at me for listening to such crap (and they didn't buy it, I had to sell it to another record store that would just buy anything for 50 cents) sad

.

On the other hand, given that I was 15/16 and yet on my musical journey when I bought most of those in 92-93, I discovered a hell of a lot of cool artists thanks to those songs spreaded on other artists' albums, so in the end beyond the occasional really lame record I ended-up enjoying most of those records, and becoming a fan of quite a few of those artists smile
