In Love

In Love, from For You is an underrated song - one of the best from his debut album. It sounds very 70's - could almost imagine rollerskating to this one. What does everyone else think of it. I think its a classic Prince tune.

It's his first album. He's 19 or whatever. Very well done. But it's not underated.

i agree...if i could keep an accurate accounting of how many times ive played each Prince album, his debut album would have the most plays, by far... "In Love", "My Love Is Forever", "Crazy You", "Im Yours", are still (I.M.O.) among the greatest songs P would ever record...

It's a part of the album i find myself returning to more than any other Prince album.

I think about what Ahmet Ertegan said about Donny Hathaway's first album: he wasn't a genius just yet but there was an undeniable innocence about it. That's a paraphrase but it sums up how i feel about the whole "For You" project.

I love this song. It's my favorite on that album. I don't play it a lot but when I remember to, I discover how good the song is all over again.

I appreciate the first 2 albums and the 1977 demos is such a deep way.

When Prince passed some of the first music I needed to listen to came from this period.

I love the song In Love

me too...couldnt have said it better.... listening to "My Love Is Forever" is always an emotional/spiritual experience for me... same (to a slightly lesser extent) with "Its Gonna Be Lonely", "Im Yours", "Sexy Dancer", "Baby", "Crazy You", In Love", "For You", & "I Wanna Be Your Lover"... i want them to play "My Love Is Forever" at my 'funeral', when i leave this planet...thats how deeply i love that song...

I completely agree, from the beginning hook to the layered vocal fade at the end it is pure Prince! My absolute favorite from this album 💜

This song and album will have a special place in my heart. For years, I listened to "Crazy You" without listening to any other Prince tracks, as it was so perfect. I also bought the album on vinyl. A few weeks before he passed I started to get into his catalogue more, and was working my way through For You/Prince (I was listening to Bambi a few hours before). In Love is definitely one of my favourites!

"In Love" - not hating on it - it's just the sound of the synths on it, and maybe the rhythm in which they're played, that I find irritating. After the gorgeousness of the brief title track, "In Love" makes me wince every time. Then "Soft and Wet" makes everything alright again.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

There is such an 'innocence' to the music, and you hear it continually throught his career in certain songs, albums

I call it the Joni touch sometimes, a lot of the ballads and some other songs have the underlying feel of that innocence. I know people stress the 'nasty funky edgy' side of Prince but the innocent vulnerable part of him is there too.

.

Leaving 4 New York and When We Are Dancing Close & Slow were 2 songs after he passed that just melted me. The music alone for Dancing Close & Slow is so raw. Forget what he's actually saying, but the music and how how delivers the lyrics. wow

Crazy You, the instrumental ending of I Wanna Be Yoru Lover, Power Fantastic, even though it came in 1986, is another that has that touch.

I bet it sounds 70's because it was recorded in the 70's😂

For You is a nice album, but In Love is one of the weaker tracks, imo. It plods along in a pretty boring way. The singing is good, some of the nicest on this album. There's good energy in vocal lines overall, especially the "Falling, falling, falling in love" part. But the underlying music, particularly the very average and uninteresting drums and simple main synth line, is lackluster. Much better are Crazy You, I'm Yours, Soft and Wet, My Love Is Forever, and For You.
