I live in Baltimore and I am trying to get the funding for a mural. His impact on the city should be memorialized.

I really love this track. The sentiment, the melody, the gorgeous harmonies from Eryn, beautiful guitar solo by Prince, and the way the strings and horns play his solo note for note, and they way mixes them together is just crazy.

Agree 100%. I also love the lyric 'peace is more than the absence of war'.

I have to disagree. I think Phase 2 is his best album since 3121. Maybe even since The Rainbow Children. The only song I don't care for is Screwdriver. Now Phase 1 on the other hand...

I lover the song Screwdriver! It just makes me laugh every time I hear it. And I also think it's kinda true about Prince and the "associates". It's a fun song.

I like the music but the lyrics make me groan.

I really like HnR2. While I am rather meh about the song Baltimore, I like it because I think it represented Prince being more socially progressive and involved. More signs of how he was evolving in a positive direction.

For the record.. and to Schlomo... lets disagree then. wink

Because, I love Phase 1, so many great songs and I am not joking.. cool music

Especilly the second half, pure and great Prince music.. I love the first half as well, not the opener though.

Phase 2, n the other hand.. I have tried to listen, but each time I either fell asleep, or took the cd off in disgust...

Phase 2 is terrible..... damn... I am not sure why some in here like it - but then again I did not like the 3121 album, either (only Black Sweat).

This song was very important to Prince. It was the first example of how he was going to reinvent the minneapolis sound. (his words)

One major part of that is his guitar solo, he would submit the guitar solo as a guide for orchestration, and that guitar solo would be replaced by the orchestration.

If you remember we got 2 versions of this song, the first has his guitar solo in tact. The second has the guitar gone with orchestration in its place.

The next example of this new sound was supposed to be a song called Pangea, that he was working on at some point in 2016.

Okay, I know it is weird that I am responding to myself but here is an update. Since I wrote this, I listened to the Paisley Park P & M version of Baltimore and have really re-assessed the song. I loved that version, as his tone and emotions in his singing better captured the gravitas of the situation while still attempting to inspire hope. For me, the music and the tone of some of the chants in the recorded version were just not soulful or heartfelt enough to do the beautiful message in the song justice.
