Concerts and MTV

Were any of Prince's concerts from back in the day ever aired on MTV? I mean the full concert, not little clips like Take Me With U or I Would Die 4 U/Baby I"m A Star

Yes. The concert from 1985 that came with the new Purple Rain was shown on MTV in 1985, I saw it.

I'm just saying...

^ I think the show was broadcast live in Europe (although I'm not aware through MTV) and I presume therefore the recording was then rebroadcast such as in the US on MTV?

Thanks for the correction.

As Langebleu said the 1985 show was broadcasted live in Europe through Eurovision. MTV did rebroadcast it later. Not in 1985 I believe.

MTV Live Concert original broadcasts I can remember off the top of my head:

1986 July 1 - Sheridan. Show to celebrate "Under The Cherry Moon" broadcast live on MTV. Only 30 minutes but still

2004 April 20 - New York. Musicology Release Party.

There probably have been more but those would be rebroadcast.

Of course MTV recorded the Rock In Rio concert for broadcast but Prince denied them to broadcast it. Ths show was broadcast in Brazil by a local TV station. But not on MTV smile

The Sacrifice Of Victor was broadcast on MTV Europe on 1994/01/22 and I'm pretty sure at least once again on the next day because I could swear I saw it twice in the course of that weekend (I only had access to cable TV at my grandma's on weekends back then). It was unannounced (AFAIK at least) and I was like "wow WTF too cool" when it started playing out of the blue. It was then credited to prince (not Prince as on the subsequent video release).

If Syracuse was ever played on MTV Europe it can only be after the channel was launched in 87.

MTV Europe didn't exist in 1985.

His appearance on Sheila's "Romance 1600" show from San Fran was a high point 4 me back then....granted it was just 1 song that HE appeared on....but we got the bulk of Shelia's gig.
