A depressing thought....

...if Prince was still alive, there's a very good chance he'd have released a new album by now. Sad not to hear current Prince. Now I really know what "the day the music died" really means. Damn.

Yes. You are right. And more than before I feel bad for not having appreciated new music from Prince enough during the last years. I miss it so much now it's gone forever.

I was one of those fans that was at the wrecka sto on the day a new Prince album was released. But, as time wore on I grew tired of his antics, such as releasing an album in Europe but not in the States and have to confess that I didn't even buy his last four releases because of that and also because I didn't care for the sound he was making with 3rd Eye- it was too 'rock' for my liking. So, I feel like I let him down after years of being there and supporting him and then not even buying the last releases (which I did finally get AOA, H&R 1 and 2. I still haven't bought 3rd Eye because it just isn't the sound that I want to remember him by. But, it's my burden that I will carry.

And some peeps on here would still be complaining about how he lost his touch.

He very well may have by now. Probably something bluesy mixed in with other styles with Mono Neon and others, maybe Judith Hill, maybe a PAAM CD, maybe something we could never have imagined. (smile)

I hadn't listened to P since PR outside of the radio, so I re-learned him with HNR first, then went backwards to AOA, listening to some 2000s in between, then to the 90s, with his first 2 albums in between. I'm still discovering. Lately it's been more of ONA.

What a journey it's been.

Since I am always interested in the present and who someone becomes personally and creatively, I am glad I began (again) with the newest. But I also see the merit in appreciating the time frame one feels he was his best in. I think it was all good.

I look back to emancipation, crystal ball, and other albums that didn't blow me away the first time hearing them. But they did eventually. For me, I enjoy the dif styles and flavors you get from his music. He opened my mind musically and sure am going to miss that sad

I've come to terms with it now, I guess. I'm not beating myself up for it. I've been a mega-fan since Controversy was released and his music was the soundtrack to my life all these years. What did help immensely was my trip to Paisley Park at the end of May for my birthday. I felt his presence everywhere and beleive that he forgave me. That's all that matters. biggrin

Really sad. I think we would have heard something way before now actually. I get the feeling he was pursuing multiple HitnRun releases. The unused artwork, the vibe of the albums... everything pointed to a prolific creative resurgence. HitnRun 1 isn't my fav... I feel like it was an artistic statement somehow on current music. But the throwback perfection of HitnRun 2 showed he was absolutely cranking on all cylinders there towards the end.

HitnRun 2 is basically a masterpiece, and I'm using that in the traditional sense, not the 'I think Come is a masterpiece because I can call anything a masterpiece and who are you to argue with me' way. I rank it among the very cream of the crop of all of his official albums. Front to back it's as good as any of the best of them in my opinion. Granted, and unfortunately, drugs may have played a part in that. He definitely sounds... ultra-cool and laid back on phase 2. An extremely creative and talented system awash in opiods but not yet succombing can produce some monumental work - it's been shown over and over throughout history (Hendrix, white album era Lennon, Ocean Blvd Clapton, Cobain, Jerry Garcia, etc etc, and none of them were quite on the level with Prince).

Just a ton of tragic implications for the way everything went down. Horrible. Too many sycophants around. He didn't get the help he needed when he needed it, and he didn't have anyone around that could tell him "no." Fucking travesty.

It's pretty much why in my opinion black is the new black needs to be released next and latest stuff he was working on up to and around hitnrun pt 2, which was done easily a year before it was released. We have plenty of time for remasters or outtakes from back when, I just want what our brother was just before he left us. Beautiful little guy. Big loves everyone. Nice reflective idea for a thread.

Really ? So the guitar songs are not princey for you ? What's the difference between wow, fixurlifeup and loose, endorphinmachine, let's go crazy or peach ? Vintage prince to me. The 3rd eye girl concerts were awesome. And funk n roll on that album is way better than the aoa version.

I don't care for Peach, Endorphinemachine, fixurlifeup and some others that feature screaming guitars. It's my opinion. I've never been a fan of screaming guitars, even when I was a kid. I liked pop music while my peers were into Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Aerosmith, etc. Not my cup of tea. I sure didn't enjoy going to see Prince only to see/hear him do a 10 minute guitar solo (although he brought me to tears when I saw his performance at R&RHOF when he did the solo for John Harrison's song) when he could have done two other songs instead. I understand that he loved his guitars and loved playing them but, again, it's not my cup of tea.

It's really sad, because I think that he was ready to do some wicked funk stuff with Mononeon and A.Crutchfield.
I mean, the line up with Prince keys/vocals,Donna guitars,MonoNeon bass,Adrian sax and Kirk on drums was the next project and it was really funky...
The shows fron October/November 2015 at PP were great...Love or Money in the setlist... sad

I violently agree with you. Having followed Prince for 30+ years, I felt like his last album (Phase 2) was as good as anything he'd ever done. Crying Shame.

Prince.org, by definition, is a memorial site. Damn.

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully at least some of it was recorded. But how long might we have to wait - can't see it being top of the estates list.

No, I didn't miss the point. The point is that Prince is no longer with us but his music lives on...

Ok. Great. Thanks for your input. But that's not what we're here to discuss. Start your own thread and maybe I can come on that and introduce an irrelevant point too. I don't know why I bother.

Agreed. One good outcome of Prince's "looking forward" approach was that, of course, he'd hit the mark now and again. He'd be the total zeitgeist. Unfortunately for us (and him) 2016-2020 was shaping up to be a golden, brand spanking new, Prince period. Damn.

F***ing heartbreaking. On so many levels.
Plectrumelectrum and AOA got me back into the purple zone after some disappointing (to me at the time) releases. I loved the rock he made with the 3 girls, and loved the brightness of AOA even tho there were some moments that felt so emotionally raw I have no words. The whole Mr Nelson thing was exquisite. Phase 1 didn't move me, but Phase 2 was absolutely great imo. It made me was soooo excited for what was yet to come. I'm gutted it all ended so abruptly, prematurely, and unnecessarily.
RIP P. There will never be another who comes close to what his music meant, what it still means, to me. So many milestones and/or significant life events correlate to a certain Prince song or era. And like someone else said he opened my mind musically and I will be forever grateful for that.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Agree. It looked like 3EG was done and he was going in a new direction and shaping a new band with MonoNeon, as well as further P&M shows
