Prince - Annie Christian 1982 punk version

Kicking version of one of my favorite joints off of Controversy. The end of it I imagine is Prince in a spaceship with the door open performing a guitar solo as he leaves the planet!!!!!!!!!!!

On Youtube, for the uninitiated...

Technically, this is a live version from the Controversy Tour.

That said, it is indeed excellent. wink

I'd say it's pretty punk, not everything in the subgenre has to sound strictly like Dead Kennedys or whatever.

I'd say it's subjective. It has elements of punk but overall I personally wouldn't class it as punk. Having spent the majority of my adult life married to a punk rocker, I know that my husband wouldn't even consider this to be punk rock, however, it does have some of the basic elements so I guess it is debateable. Anyway, does it really matter? It's a cracking tune either way.

i dunno...i grew up punk rock. i consider it more an attitude or a movement than anything. as far as i'm concerned, prince was punk as fuck. from 'for you' til 4/21/16.

And, if I'm not mistaken, it's from the New Orleans Show right? I love that CD. One of the first boots I had.

I dunno, maybe? There are so many great shows from that tour, I'd have to go back and look through them to see. New Orleans is a great one, though, first boot I got from that tour.

Id give my left nut just because this is in existence. That song is so badass and underrated. I couldnt get with it back then as it was too far ahead of me and it was like 'anti music.' That live version (on video) must have had folks trippin in the audience. Its his/black rock version of heavy metal devil shit imho lol that some bands were doing live..Kiss factor, Sabbath, etc. This s why Controversy gotta be in the top 3-4 of releases. So many diverse genres happening here on Controversy (I read some review basically calling the album a hodgpodge and schizophrenic etc and I see why, but it shouldn't have been seen as a negative imho). . AC with its punk, rock, new wave, evil. And that promo picture of Annie herself with the flag and cross. Lawdy Ms Clawdy, no wonder black parents were going apeshit with his music and albums being in their homes. And what the fuck was he on making this type of song? Imagine this shit being played in a new wave club. Its like a precursor to Modenairre and of course the first in the lady ab driver New York trilogy. Truly experimental vibe and flipped the rock evil by talking straight AGAINST(?) the devil, anti-christ. No wonder he became a holy roller.

.
