The tracks, especially 8, have a beginning, middle and an end. The drumming is propellsive and nuanced taking you on a journey. Plus, to me, the themes and lyrics to most Prince albums get tiring, Madhouse doesn’t. The intesting thing about playing them on Spotify, is the algorithm that spotify uses then takes you into Live versions of Talking Heads and other more rock oriented tracks. I tend to like everything that Spotify plays to go with Madhouse. | |

The single best side project album is The Family. It is such a beautiful complement to Parade.

[Edited 8/1/17 11:16am] Agree...1986 was a brilliant Prince year and his recorded output is arguably one of the most creative periods in recorded pop history. Jill Jones and Madhouse also were recorded in 1986. Not to mention Sign O' The Times. | |

Apart from the obvious ones I'll go for what he did with Andy Allo. Both Superconductor and Oui Can Luv are fantastic, and the songs she sang on AOA sound beautiful to me... | |

The ones that actually had some personality. The Time had Morris Day with his swagger and his attitude. No one else could have done Cool like him. It was taylormade for him just like Nasty Girl was for Vanity. Sheila E, as great as she is as a drummer, doesn't have that. The fact that Prince took The Glamorous Life away from Apollonia and gave it to Sheila, proves that: it doesn't really matter who sings it. I just heard Vanity's version of Sex Shooter and she brings something to it that Apples just didn't have. Which is probably why Prince took all the other good tunes away from that album. Same for The Family and Jill Jones: fine albums, but no personality.
