do we have the band soundcheck version ?

Good question. I'm guessing that if anyone has it, it's in pretty limited circulation, since Princevault says that it's "unconfirmed" that the soundcheck version was an instrumental.

I loved it at first, but I'll admit it doesn't really go anywhere. I still think it's cool, and is essential, especially given all of the other incredible things that came from it.

Yes, I agree. I liked it initially but I wasn’t blown away by it, and subsequent listens hasn’t really changed that opinion. It’s conceptually and thematically interesting rather than musically so, in and of itself (for me at least). Enjoyable and nice to have though.

Coco Boys. Isn't that the same intro as U Got The Look running through it?

Two listens I think I'm going to love it, but not sure.

What do you guys think.

I like it!

It's quite good. It's interesting hearing him build Sign O the Times as he goes in real time, even though I've heard the Crystal Ball stuff and all that. He probably did this shit every...single...day. in fact, I know he did. God bless this one of a kind single minded work driven artist. Nothing stopped him or got him down. He never ever stopped, did he? True dedication and and a true inspiration.

I've wasted half my life and this cat wrote a new song DAILY.

Every day: New Song. Time to get to WORK, bitches and motherfuckers. WAKE UP. Got a song to write. Listen now....Come on...ON THE ONE.

Amazing. His toss offs, jerk offs, one offs, and experiments are better than most shit other artists write that's meant to be taken seriously as as single for mass production.

More please. Lovin these leaks....

It doesn't have to. But he wrote this stuff every day. Often times working through it. I find it insprational that a song like this, which is largely a throwaway for Prince, anyone else would have killed to have.

I love it because we get a peak into the 'aborted' CocoBoys Battle of the Bands etc world he was creating in Uptown/Paisley Park.

It reminds me in a way of Condition of the Heart(which was some kind of script or early draft of Under the Cherry Moon) I look at this song in the same way.

Then theres that funky little guitar break near the end, i love the tracks with the little crumbs of genius sprinkled in. This song is on repeat everyday for me since day one, sounds amazing with a pair of headphones & conjures up the sign of the times era approach in epic fashion. Finished or not it's better than a lot of his released work easily.

What I find fascinating is how the track ever so slowly evolves, and how the basis of so many classic tracks come from the seemingly minor evolution of one track. I think that alone makes this track fascinating. Like peering over his shoulder and seeing how his mind operates.

Big Tall Wall beat.

Scatting, or instructions for Eric left in an unfinished work? Might he have done this on other tracks?

I was just listening to the recent Rainmaker bootleg, and at the 7min point of "I Don't Know Jam Part I" Prince is scatting instructions for the horns. It made me remember your comment here. Thought you might be interested.
