"Frankie had a brother named Joe....." Frankie and Joey Coco, perhaps??

Do we know who the Coco boys were going to be?

I know Mickie Free was a part of that

seems to me like the song is about Prince's teenage band, mixed with some fictional narrative...he says he played guitar and his "brother" played bass (P and Andre?)...he even references Chazz ("cousin hit a lick on the drums")...he mentions $100.00 for the winner of the "battle of the bands", which all the old Minneapolis artists mention in their histories...i dont think it was about micki free and them or Mazerati (sp?)

Hmmm. I am starting to think this song sort of developed into "Schoolyard" later.

this that addictive, hypnotic Minneapolis funk...Prince's melodic rapping/storytelling skills in rare form on this one...just like on "My Medallion"... and that beat and bassline got me shook...ive listened to this joint at least 5-10 times a day since i first heard it earlier this week...its like P is still here, and he got a brand new song out..."kanga-WHAT?!?!"

This is one of those songs that really confirms Prince's assertion that, to know him, all we needed to do was listen to the music. These lyrics are ripped right from his teen years - with the battle of the bands, etc.

Love this one.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This song is altogether:
Dorothy Parker
Hot Thing
Sign Of The Times
U Got The Look
Shokadelica
even Housequake to some extend

Yeah as the track evolves ever so slightly, it hits the basis to all of those tracks. It definitely starts off as SOTT. It's SOTT minus the lyrics and the recurring electro-beat/riff. Then it wanders on into other would-be signature tracks.

Fuck! This is just drip nasty funk. I really can't believe this song never came out. I can't even get past the first two minutes. Have to keep starting over. Frankie and Joe they shared the "high part harmonies!" I'm just shaking my head in wonder and amazement. Feel like this may be in my top favorites for a long time. Thank you.. Thank you Eye Records. Wow.

I loved it at first, but I'll admit it doesn't really go anywhere. I still think it's cool, and is essential, especially given all of the other incredible things that came from it.

Agree, it's really interesting to hear elements of some SOTT tracks
.
It's an unusual song in a way and doesn't really go anywhere but obviously it was planned for a musical so still great to have.

Good question. I'm guessing that if anyone has it, it's in pretty limited circulation, since Princevault says that it's "unconfirmed" that the soundcheck version was an instrumental.
