This joint is funky, but I prefer the released version which is straight fire with all the energy and the thumping bass solo.

Because you can hear the instruments better on this version. And feels more real. You can see prince and his band jamming to this. The other finished version less so.

I think I prefer the released version. This is more of a showcase for Eric Leeds. Where some of the horn lines re-used for Eye No?

I like this sparser barkless version better. Also, prefer this laid back vocal to his falsetto on released version

Funk......is space.

As Prince said in Melbourne last year, Space is about how funky you are and how funky you ain't!

This version is highly superior compared to the released version, which seems fluffy and too light weight in comparison.

I can't agree with this. The original 12" is one of my all-time favorite Prince trax, just perfct. That said, it's awesome to hear the demo version, just not "superior" to the finished.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

yeahthat but it is headbang FUNKY all the same. You know I appreciate that. music dancing jig

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Fantastic version, sound quality is amazing. This gives me high hopes for the rest of the tracks.

hey? is your username from this song? (I know it is a music term but I just wondered)

Nope, my username came from his live shows, he would yell out "leadline" very often, which yes, is a queue for the band to play the.....leadline.

In my book the original released b-side 12" 10 minute mix is the fire. This is hella funky though. I don't know if I miss the dog barks or not. Hmmm...

Of course, as anyone can tell, Prince is using his lower register. I feel like he's just mailing in the vocals for a guide.

The released version is "highly explosive" with his awsome falsetto and I think is still the better of the two.

I totally loved the official 12" Version of this track, so getting to hear this demo (and in great sound quality, too) is a real treat. I won't debate which version is the best. I love them both. This demo (and the Feel U Up demo) are definitely among the best of the new outtakes. They make ya wanna dance and sing. Thank you much to whomever leaked this. biggrin
