It's cool to hear but I don't really love it. I think Sheena elevated the material, which maybe wasn't his best to begin with.

Seems to me that he was deliberately planning on giving this song to a female and Sheena Easton was it.

His falsetto seems to be a little higher than usual, not to mention the subject matter.

I suppose it was still nice to hear Prince's version, even if it didn't really hit me over the head.

Maybe I should give it another listen.

Interesting that Prince's original has partly different instrumentation, with a sound closer to e.g. "Housequake".

I could swear I hear Susannah Melvoin mixed in with Prince's vocal towards the end.

Christ forgot about this diamond of a track...got it on the cassette version of the album when it came out!!!

I don't know how I ended up so out of the loop, but where has this leaked? How can I hear this? I was never on The royal hub, so I never got that stuff, but torrents used to do the job, but not so much anymore. For a while it seemed like you could find stuff on youtube and dl the audio...

Anyway, if anybody can help me out, I'd appreciate it! I always dug the song.

But imho nothing can compare to the Sheena Easton-Uptown-Version (the Extended 8 Minute-Version) of this song...

I think Sheena did a great job in putting her vocals on this one...

The way she emphasized some words, and the strength she put in it...

And the Uptown-Version is a Remix by Prince, with him playing guitar and some cool extra keyboard stuff.. I also like the tambourine on the Extended Version...

it's amazing how he managed to sound so different, vocally, on so many songs.
everytime you think 'ok, now we've heard his range and inflections', up pops a
track like this with a tone that's distinctly different again. the man has such an
amazing voice.
