What is it about Head that made Prince want to segue into it from I Want To Be Your Lover?

And why did it sound good? As far as my nonmusical mind can tell it's either because they have a similar beat or synth hook?

I think it represents his transition from teenage lust to adult sexual desire. No more shyness, just straight up nastiness. And live, they both work at the same beats per minute, with similar beats, so that's why it's an easy transition.

I guess lyrically it makes sense too. "I wanna be the only one you come for." And how will that happen? He says so right in the title of the next song. lol

Where is this alleged segue?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Also for the early Parade shows and Lovesexy tour as well. Always noticed it but never thought too much into it lol the Lover outro combined with the abrupt funk stomp of Head's beat makes for an effective contrast I guess

I guess he figured "I Wanna Be Ur Lover" was the best song he had that allowed him to set up "Head" by screaming - "Enough of that tame shit! Who wants some Head?!?"

And he made a good choice, IMO.
