Listening and here is a comment on the mixing question. I don't think a 'remix' is to do with a remaster...a remaster is to bring forth better sound by cleaning up and tweaking. A remix is diff...and should not be touched unless the artist wants to. Prince purposely mixed certain parts low. Wouldn't it be incredible to hear many guitar parts he did much louder in the mix??? Of course but he did not want that. SO - they should not be touched. I'd love to hear the bass guitar more clearly in Alphabet St...but he did not intend for us to hear it like that.

A remaster is taking what is there and cleaning up or enhancing somehow. I'd like to know more from technicians. However, this is a giant heaping POS in terms of remastering. If anyone has Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd or even Steve Wonder remasters, you will know what I mean. All they seem to have done here is turn the volume up and increase the high frequency.

I actually think I am hearing distortion during parts of Purple Rain.

Vault disc 2 is INCREDIBLE...although I am dismayed by the sound on some of it. Either the tapes degraded or WB did not hae access to the actual masters. I thought the same of Moonbeam Levels on 4Ever. I used to think Crystal Ball was 'brickwalled'....it's a million times better than this.

Now, does anyone know if disc 3 was touched? I feel it sounds much better....I don't think I've ever heard the Love Theme (God) this clearly.

Wouldn't we want to hear the guitar part at the end of When Doves Cry more clearly rather than having to strain to hear that amazing part? We can't b/c he did not want us to do that. In fact, I wold say, he intended us to strain to hear all of this...like a hidden treasure.
