The drumming on 7 by Madhouse I had to go check, just in case mother memory was failing me (and because of all the stories around whom played what on where), but - I do so much enjoy the drumming on 7. I'm not sure why. It may be slack or slidey to a number of proper drummers but to my ears this is just such a lovely expression of Prince on this instrument. And, you know, even if it is a combination of drum-machine and live snare or whatever, it is just so much fun to listen to.

Yes - that's right but I do keep having to go back and check...the speculation about who was what on where was quite rife when this all came out, I seem to remember. For quite some time I recall the information being that Prince was on keyboards and Sheila drums and Eric saxophone...then the Fink and Levi names appeared but, ultimately, it was just Prince and Eric.
Madhouse is such a gloriously different off-shoot project. Much like The Family. Terrific music and a superstar in full view but invisible. When they came across them in '88 they amazed me. | |
