Can anyone vouch for the vinyl PR remaster?

I've seen people ask but then gets buried in discussions. Has anyone got the vinyl remaster, and can someone do that fancy waveform view and see how it's been mastered?

Would be interesting to put them up against Foefer's remasters and see as well.

And so also just to clarify - all the abums released on Rhino on vinyl a few years ago, were all remastered as well?

It uses the same masters, but it does sound less bright than the digital version (I believe it to be a combination of the RIAA curve as well as Kevin Gray slightly tweaking the eq before cutting it.) I actually quite enjoyed it, compressed as it is.

The Rhino albums can technically be called remasters, but they were, from my understanding, mastered specifically for vinyl from hi-res digitized version of the original tapes.

Why would anyone bother with a remaster on vinyl when the original vinyl sounds great?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Use. The. Search. Feature.

This has all been answered, repeatedly. The 2011 reissues. Search for "Bernie Grundman himself". Read the stickies about the soundtrack and the other disks

Because things can always sound different, and sometimes those differences are better.

Doh. 2009, that's what I meant.

Have you read ANYTHING about this release? By all accounts, it sounds like ass.

The original vinyl (mastered by Bernie Grundman) sounds great - and is readily available.

But, hey - if you like buying stuff that's substandard. shrug

I have this release, as well as the 2009, the original that I bought in 84 as well as an 84 promo. Yes, the original sounds good, but what's wrong with listening to something new? There are parts on the new remaster that weren't as audible in the original. Listening to the new one doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the original. I like recorded music. I like hearing new versions of things.I have Purple Rain on 8-track for goodness sake!

I listened to the new remaster on vinyl all weekend and it sounds incredible. I'll make some time this week to get a wav graphic so we can complain about it ;p

My question is about the new remaster. People are asking the question, and no one is replying.

Nice! Looking forward to a good ol' side by side comparison. I wonder if Let's Go Crazy has the same distortion at the end?

PLEASE and thank you. My hand twitches every time I am on amazon and the remastered vinyl is staring at me. But if its analogue to digital to digital 2015 to analogue.... and knowing the 2015 remaster is a brick wall, and thag you HAVE to master different for vinyl or.. juzt no. I am thinking simply extra sales with WB of course... and therefore i cannot click BUY and i have been asking all over this forum.
.
So please, do that analysis, you would be a hero to everyone that cares. And we are here. 🤗 (oh and we r FUUNKAY)

I received the Purple Rain 2017-remaster-vinyl today: but I still haven't listened.. woot!

I very much hope the LP remaster is better than the Cd, too much "loudness" effect on the Cd, unfortunately!

I have my hopes for a great sound on the vinyl.. Will return here tomorrow, with an opinion.. wink

Huh.
Thank you...
..
I have to look at the cd again. Because of the vinyl its not to the edge of volume disaster but it lools like the same master itself.... he wanted it brighter, there is a 1% chance it managed to be remastered how he wanted and managed to get it loud but the dynamics are actually right? Maybe? I am not the audio lunatic i used ro be but very interesring. Thank you.
...
..
ANYONE THOUGHTS?
..
Oh and the inclusion of the other years are very helpful.

OK maybe the same master but without clipping...Thats huge because if so, becauase the CD version has been called "too clean" and it does have distortion in the wrong places because it is hardcore bricked. Seems like the vinyl might be the master as it meant to be. Itools the same but does not clip.

Does anyone else notice sibilance on their vinyl copy? The 's' sounds all sound like 'sh' (When this error occurs on vinyl it's known as 'sibilance').

.

This has only been noticeable to me on one other record in my collection (Madonna's American Life reissue).

.

The record and stylus are both very clean -- tone arm and tracking force are good to go...

You truly could not have called out a better album to describe sibilance to people. I feel like Madonna is often so processed its stupid because she actually COULD SING there is no bs on all her ealier hits other than that BS standard for everyone in the 80s...
.
But AMERICAN LIFE. Me being the only one who liked it pretty much one thing that killed me was Sibilance. But you are talking vinyl? I had American Life the CD.... but you just me back a decade and I remember being so pissed at the s problem EVERYWHERE. HOLLYWOOD and of all fucking songs XSTATIC PROCESS. But all of them...
.
sibilance can be anywhere in the chain from recording to when you play it plus equipent. In AMERICAN LIFEs case THAT WAS THE RECORDING THEY PUT OUT AND I JUST RE LIVED THAT SO HARD I WANT JUST RUN THE WHOLE ALBUM THROUGH A DEESSER BECAUSE I CAN.
.
Thats how pissed I was that I forgot for a decade and the second you just said this instinct kicked in. It is not you. That album should be called SIBILANCE.
.
As for PURPLE RAIN I suppose I will have to listen again and report back. What a SHAME! But I do remember thinking at aome point i think in an s situation but other stuff too where i thought... well he wanted to make it brighter...😆 just dpnt remember where it was.
