A LOT got cut from TDE, including W&L's vocals.

yeah but if they'd released the guitar heavy version no one would have complained and they'd have won on this track.

and we wouldn't have known of this pre version sans geetar so we wouldn't have complained lol

It's always good to get an 'alterative' version, (particularly if we have other version by other sources), but to me, there is no doubt that this is simply a weaker early take. The 'nugget' doesn't eclipse the 'vision'.

I really enjoyed this disc, but yeah TDE needs that guitar. The boot does such a great job of building tension especially via that guitar solo, that when it's released in the breakdown about halfway through the song it's a defining moment in the Prince canon imo.

I agree: since we already have the original version by AndrΓ© and the Prince cut in near poerfect sounding quality, in the end it's better to have another version that wasn't circulating.

However, where the problem lies is that it's very likely that WB didn't do this intentionally. They just saw a tape labeled "The Dance Electric", though "oh it seems the fans want that one" and didn't bother to check whether it was the final version or an early mix. Apperently the same problem arose with Father's Song at least? So I'm not gonna complain about having 2 versions. But That makes me question WB's quality control even more.

I really love it too. Andre did not do it justice. I am a big fan of LINN and this whole jam is LINN drum sex = perfection. This is what is sounds like when the Drum Machines are acting out We can fuck.

I know nothing about ver. w/ guitar. 4 me this works just fine - clean but heavy jam + some simple but effective gospel like lyrics. 10/10

Dont get me wrong, I'll take this song in whatever incarnation I can get it, but I think this version is a bit on the meandering side without the guitar et al.
