But, have you watched the Purple Rain film? He plays it in the film.

yeah, when you watch the movie, the Father is playing 'Fathers Song' right before the Revolution goes into Computer Blue. That same piano piece is played by Lisa on piano and Prince on guitar in the song Computer Blue after the (giving head) scene

Those two were/are always connected. Supposedly 'Fathers Song' is a piece by Prince's father John L Nelson.

It was noticed as far back as when the song was featured on the film release.
