Another question about Prince's guitar gear

Hello everyone. I know there have been discussions before about the equipment Prince used. One thing I'd really like to know is how he got his distorted guitar sounds on "Let's go crazy", and on various other riffs and solos on the Purple Rain album. Some of the sounds are pretty high-gain, and I've read elsewhere that he used a Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal in the 80s, but nothing specific or proven. Is anyone able to confirm or deny this info? Seems an unlikely source for his sound, but entirely possible still.

Cheers!

there was a thread a few months ago about his 1987 pedalboard. i would assume everything was the same in 84-85 as the cloud guitar sound never really changed.

his pedalboard was L to R: boss vibrato, boss octave, boss flanger, boss super overdrive, boss master switch/power supply and a colorsound wah.

his amps were mesa boogie mark 3 amp heads and a 4x12 cab.
