Was "I Wanna Be Your Lover" uhm... "inspired" by Joe Tex's "Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)"?

In a recent Instagram post, Questlove says:

.

*when you realize the "jam" part of @Prince's #IWannaBeYourLover is the "jam" part of #JoeTex's #AintGonnaBumpNoMore #WeeBayFace.

.

I've listened to that track, and I can't say I hear it:

I mean, it's basically just jamming on one chord, with a slight variation at the end of a phrase or a few measures to bring it back to the beginning and do it again. The bass on both has a disco flavor to them.

But beyond that, I wouldn't say that he lifted it or was even inspired by it. The one was out in 1977. IWBYL was 1979, so, while it came first - ?love is stretching to say it's the same. There are a dozen disco or soul songs I could throw a rock at and hit at the same time, that all do the same thing.

I forgot all about that song.lol
Imagine all the trouble they would be in if that song was released today?
a twitter war for sure. Btw, I don't think Prince was inspired by this song
It's just what disco and r&b sounded like back then

yeah, it's about that start of the horn riff. It is the same. It may have influenced Prince or it may not... either way, not too big a thing, imo.

This song was. Both songs has the same producer (Buddy Killen) & same Nashville country session musicians.

That, my friend, holds a lot of water in this. No doubt Q is a Prince fan like us all, but just because one goes roller staking with Prince does not make him a bigger expert. Didn't Prince diss Q in a remix?!
