"Universal Gets To Peek at Warner's Contract With Prince"

http://www.billboard.com/...ith-prince

.

For months, Universal Music Group has been pushing for a refund on its $31 million purchase of some of Prince’srecorded-music rights amid growing uncertainty over whether its deal conflicts with rights that Warner Music Group already owns.

Now, UMG will be able to decide for itself.

In a court order Friday, a judge granted UMG access to WMG’s 2014 contract with the late pop star, a confidential document that UMG hasn’t previously seen, sources tell Billboard.

Thanks Bart.

Personally, I'm hoping they review the contract and are satisfied that they're getting what they paid for so that, for once, there can be some clear direction for this whole mess.

I agree, but what are the chances of that happening...

Hopefully that will happen because UMG has not exploited Ps music since February or March 2017.

However, I can see Warner Bros saying UMG's interpretation of the contract will infringe upon their rights and then threaten to file a lawsuit.

Yes, thanks Bart.

I'm with Doozer. The sooner this stuff gets sorted out the better so we can get on with getting stuff out.

Read the ruling.
ONLY attorneys will be able to review the unredacted contracts.
UMG executives will not see the confidential portions or anything else they have not yet seen.

The odd thing is: if you search this title in Google, the link you get is http://www.billboard.com/...ith-prince -- yet that one won't work. The correct link (the one I posted above is the "AMP" one) is http://www.billboard.com/...ith-prince .

.

(If you don't know what AMP is: https://www.ampproject.org/ .)

Unfortunatly, I can see WB suing as well. They have already obtained an attorney and if I remember correctly WB reached out to UMG to say Houston we have a problem.

Here I was thinking AMP was alt.music.prince. Ah well, times change, acronyms take on new meanings.

It's crazy that hot-shot lawyers, who should be at the tp of their game, are paid millions but can still stuff things up.

It's such a mess!

Great article - thanks for the link!
