"Train" is on Mavis Staples' "Time Waits 4 No One" CD.

On Wendy&Lisa's "Eroica" 2CD set (and also on the incoming 2017 remaster) is included "Visions", the short piano intro to "Dream Factory".

Im pretty much a completist and I agree moonsister. Miles Davis Estate did just that, all in order and complete box sets.

THAT is probably the "safest" way to put it out as nobody can really argue with chronology. If songs are grouped "thematically" or configured into what people think of as unreleased albums (Camille, Dream Factory for example) then some will still argue that Prince is not here to make the decision on final song list. The problem, for me, of chronological is that it could be stylistically jarring as we know Prince was recording multiple "projects" at once. At the end of the day, I just want it all biggrin

I think with Camille and Dream Factory those albums were already sequenced by Prince and ready for release but rejected by WB.

True I was using Camille as an example but not a good one. Re Dream Factory there is conflicting information out there as to whether this was ever actually a finished sequence because with the break up of the Revolution Prince kept saying working on it and it evolved into Crytal Ball.

I am going to be THAT guy and be pedantic but Crystal Ball was a 3 LP (vinyl) configuration not CD... biggrin

There is a podcast with Susan Rodgers being interviewed by Michael Dean. About half way through the 3hr interview she discusses the vault. She states people are working on the vault, getting it together. (paraphrasing here) One day the vault will be released but it will take a while.

It is the ONLY way to monetise and viably release all that material. It's reported Prince recorded around 300 new songs with 3RDEYEGIRL alone. How many casual fans have the appetite for even this, which is only a fraction of what is there. If the estate do not create a premium subscriber service for hardcore fans, I fear much of this material will never be heard.

Depends. If they release stuff with motion controls, who knows it could really catch on? Flying saucer props, mystical engram entities like featured in Alien: Covenant. A more terrifying animatronics with a Nintendo interface. Could be huge like MJ's Thriller. geek

Unbelievable. There will be no more NPGMC or any other official Prince related homepage selling vault material. There will be no more surprise releases for free, no more exclusive content for tidal or anything else. Prince is dead. As hard as it is. I think of him almost every day but this is what it actually is. Reality. There might be some releases via a label from time to time but don't expect too much.

If the estate had any sense (and good business advice), they would leverage the volume of vault material with hardcore fans via Paisley Park sponsorship.

Offer a 'Patrons of The Legacy of Prince' type annual support subscription to keep Paisley Park going, and in return drip feel the patrons with they type of material that would never make mass market release.

Example - Patrons get a live CD (from the hundreds stored) every quarter. Plus, a studio material CD annually. Someting like 'Computer Blue - The complete takes'. It would never be worth selling to the mass market, but would keep the die hards paying a subscription year on year.

This. IF the estate has any sense. Or even bother to refer to the fans who actually supported Prince's later career and are interested in it.

This is typical guardian fare really, resorting to the most hyperbolic quote given by a particular

politician on any given day and running with it in short order. It's been rumoured, actually, that the

print guardian readership has declined so much that the editorship have turned to the homeless for

authorship of some of their articles - provided they don't ask for payment. (And yes, owen jones'

name may spring to mind here) However, in spite of initial surprise to anyone reading this, the cost-

saving tactic would implicitly make a degree of sense- given how many articles of late have turned to

trash- something which perhaps only the homeless have vast personal experience of.

The vault is in a right state at the moment and I can only think it's because Sharon Nelson is putting her failed jazz singing career
before Prince and all his fans' best interests. sad

Do you people actually know how much time and effort it takes to at least get a halfway decent overview of what is actually in the famed 'vault'? Once the recordings have been catalogued, someone must be appointed to select recordings for possible releases. When tapes have been selected one must very carefully handle them, as most of the recordings would have either been done on back-code-tape (analogue) or U-Matic-Tape (digital). Most of those tapes will not play anymore. They have to be baked and saved in the digital world. There's many more steps to follow, before anything can actually get released. Thus, it might take many more years before any real unreleased stuff will eventually surface. As far as I know the owners of the estate have not even appointed anyone checking the vault yet. As far as major record companies would compare to a possible reinstallment of the NPGMC when it comes to vault-material: don't worry. Neither can fuck up anything if the person respronsible for the vault will do a good job. How about this scenario: The etsate keeps the copyright and the masters to license finalized packages to a major label. In the digital age there's not even much need for promotion. All the estate needs to do is getting on good terms with fan-sites such as this... et voila, there's your demographic.

Exactly. And music Prince recorded during the past few years should be without the above stated issues and ready to go.

Starting with albums such as Black is the New Black, Phase 3 and other recordings would be a logical place to start, while the older music is being archived and treated.

I estimate a back catalogue of 5000 unreleased songs and 5000 instrumentals. But who will be the raiders of the (hopefully not) lost ark. Who has Prince's best interests at heart?

Is it the guy who heads Spotify, potentially responsible for structuring future deals? hmmm Is it Militant from the org, given a heads up in the official P funeral program? Is it Comerica? Or even laurarichardson? Who decides shrug
