Rainbow Children Out of Print?

I was absolutely shocked to find out that the world cannot access what I consider to be Prince's greatest work. A friend asked me to send her a copy of what I thought to be Prince's best work to expose her to his genius. I looked online and was shocked to learn that there was no way to buy it other than to pay crazy prices for used copies, i.e., in excess of $100.

The Rainbow Children is amongst his most critically acclaimed albums. Unthinkable to me that the world doesn't have access to it. A travesty and a crime in my mind. What in the heck are the representatives of the Estate doing? Take our money please. All we have gotten is a greatest hit sets and a disappointing Purple Rain Deluxe in a few weeks. The bootleggers have given us more and don't have unfettered access to the vault. At a minimum, his released stuff should be readily available in CD form. Release it.

It was back on Tidal last week so your friend could sign up for a free trail and listen to it.

Come again?

And, this isn't news. It's been out of print since shortly after it was released.

I guess I never appreciated that fact. With that said, you would think that after his death that one of the first things they would do is re-issue the previously released stuff. There is a huge demand by people wanting to discovery Prince.

I would have done that, but TRC is different. I believe that it absolutely must be listened to with the booklet. I'm going to give her one of my booklets and just burn her a copy.

I'm so thankful that I bought up 5 copies of the Rainbow Children before he passed. It's always been my favorite and I got them for around 5-10 bucks at the time. smile

Why not just burn a copy and mail it? Or wetransfer mp3 / FLAC files? In this day and age, there are a million ways to get a copy of a CD to someone instead of purchasing the actual CD. It's not like you're pirating hundreds of copies - you're just sending a copy to a friend.

I was at at resale shop recently and saw a plain run of the mill copy of Diamonds and Pearls with a $50.00 price tag. When I asked the twenty something clerk about the price, he stated it was because " Prince is dead you know." eek bheart ouch! Way to twist the knife man. I would never pay that much for that album (thankfully it's been in my collection for years), however I'm trying to fill the gaps I. My collection and it looks like I will have to pay some crazy prices if I want original copies. FYI the same resale shop was charging normal price for David Bowie and other deceased musicians.

I bought TRC on vinyl when it was released. I paid $45 aud. I was gonna buy two copies but at the time,it seemed too much, considering I bought the cd aswell as the vinyl. A friend of mine told me dont open it cos one day it might be worth something. I didnt listen to her,but I wouldnt have it any other way. VIVA LA VINYL

The Rainbow Children is one of the best evidences of P´s genius as a musician. Great to show to friends who arent into synths and drum machines. A musical journey in a basically a one-man band (with the great Blackwell drumming). One of my top5 albums for sure.

The Rainbow Childen-his fourth turning point classic. A Dylan at 50 like rebirth of inspiration on wax after a long journey in limbo. Love it or hate it, it showed an artist who was actually inspired in his work. Bold in the inspiraton to dare to offend, not by sexuality this tme as the world was a different place than in 1980, but with an unabashed social and religious doctrine. It wouldnt really mean a thing if the music wasnt outstanding.

Yes, the lyrics were controversial, and I understand the fans that dont like them, but the music is spectacular. Very well produced and performed album, with some real good songs

.

theres a lot of first things that need to be done in situations like the estate and his releases. but if you thought an estate can be stettled and things happen instantly, you clearly have no idea how the world works.
