Chaka Khan to release posthumous Prince album with secret recordings next year

Chaka Khan to release posthumous Prince album with secret recordings next year

Prince and Chaka Khan recorded a series of songs before his death
The soul legend, who enjoyed a massive hit with the Prince-penned I Feel For You, recorded tracks with the legend before he died last year.
Now the Chicago singer plans to unveil the material next year.
Chaka, below with the artist, told me: “I own half an album that we did together, recorded at my house, so we will be doing that, probably next year.”

“I own half an album that we did together” Chaka Khan

A load of unreleased Prince material is still waiting to see the light of day due to legal issues. Chaka may get around this because she is launching her own independent record label, called iKhan Sounds.

Only source I find for this is the Daily Star, is it reliable?

It's a tabloid. The kind people read for the 'sport'. But as stories go it's. It particularly titillating or scandalous so don't see that it would necessarily boost their figures much!

I hope that she gets to release it..

I consider all the collaborations he did in the past, that remain unreleased

as bequethements to the other musican.

He was always generous, and gave credit to everyone for what they did with or for him.

He left this for CHaka

I hope mean spirited avaricious and short sighted people dont jump on

some kind of "Chakas cashing in" bandwagon

Well let's hope it's true then. If it is, I wonder when those sessions are from.

It'd be nice if she'd get to finally release her scrapped 1995 WB album, too. I believe only 3 tracks remain unreleased (the rest being scattered on Epiphany and various mid-90's soundtracks), but it'd be nice to have the whole thing.

Exciting, if true, but it doesn't sound very credible. I mean, for starters, what are the chances that they would have recorded at Chaka Khan's place, instead of Paisley Park?

Think:

Would them lawyers allow any unreleased recording that has anything from Prince in it be released for monetary gains without them profiting? Be it viq WB or otherwise?

Intellectual property is the $cam they utilize ad nauseam.

The only route that works is b00tz for this type of material.

.

So if the Chaka story has any merit to it then still I do give this little chance. (unless agreements were recorded on paper before his death)

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

-If she has the copyrights to the material she is in the clear. Look at Judith Hill she is able to sell her album on her website because he gave her the master tape and in her case those are her songs she has the copyright on. I think Primce may have given Chaka material they worked on in the past. If he did it shortly before he passed it is interesting.

Wowugotit

Hope it's not the same type of rumor I heard recently about an album that Prince and Sheena Easton recorded together before his death.

Looks like the Daily Star is the only source so far... Not reliable info. Yet.

Don't know if this story is credible or not. I'm sure there are unreleased recordings from Chaka and Prince that she owns as well as part of Prince's Vaults.

But, as her fans know, her track record over the past 20 years of keeping promises as far as releasing new music is concerned, hasn't been a good one. So even if she did actually say she has ownership of these recordings and plans on releasing them, I'm not going get my hopes up. Too many broken promises of albums and projects that have never came into fruition from Chaka.
