You must be pretty negative to be upset over what children think. It's not that serious. Why would the average kid today care about The Beatles or Prince? Not the popular acts of their generation like Drake, Ariana Grande, or Miley Cyrus are. It's like an elementary school student in the 1980s, who watched MTV, caring about the music of the Andrews Sisters and Dean Martin. lol The average person don't listen to their parents music, and especially not their grandparents music. Like one of the girls in the article said that her music teacher played weird music like the blues. razz Hip hop is the pop music of today and that's what you'll see charting high in Billboard.

I don't care, those kids are my enemies now, i don't ever want to watch those boys and girls again.

lol lol lol Im funkin dyin'

What are you talking about? One of them said she liked Yellow Submarine better. So apparently she likes some Beatles songs.

Just the experimentation for the purposes of an article. What were they hoping for? "Oh! These kids like this album a lot! Proof that the Beatles' music reaches across generations and is universal!" The article in question even starts off mentioning that it used to be a "truth" that Sgt Pepper was one of, if not the, best album of all time. Screw that "truth" and the objectivist BS that underpins it.

As I said earlier in the thread, there is a kids show on Nick Jr called Beat Bugs which features animated insects performing, you guessed it, Beatles songs! It's hard enough to avoid their obnoxiousness, but now kids shows are trying to shove The Beatles down our throats?

Won't anyone think of the children? wink

People are free to like The Beatles all they like. It's the arrogant "they are objectively the greatest/one of the greatest" arguments that get me. To be fair, there hasn't been much of that in this thread, but those arguments are pretty common among Beatles fans, I have found.

I congratulate those people for anointing their favorite artist as the artist most worthy of praise. It must be nice to naturally have such objectively great taste for us all to aspire to someday. In the meantime, gimme some Roxette.

So they should make a cartoon with bugs doing Nicki Minaj & Pitbull songs instead? Or maybe this is more appropriate? lol

How about none of these artists? Shows like Bubble Guppies and Hi-5 and Blaze and the Monster Machines do just fine with the songs they use without the need to have a ladybug sing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".

I'm pretty sure that they have children singing current hits on those Kidz Bop albums and those sell pretty well. Some editions have even made the Top 10 in Billboard. Several acts have had actual cartoons about them including The Beatles, The Osmonds, Jackson 5, Kid n Play, MC Hammer, New Kids On The Block, André 3000, etc. and many others have done voices on The Simpsons. Sesame Street has had many music guests over the years too. They still rerun The Monkees TV show and they get younger audiences who watch that and go to The Monkees conventions every year. What is the difference in putting Beatles songs in a bug cartoon and putting Earth Wind & Fire songs in animated movies like Boogie Wonderland and other oldies in Grand Theft Auto which probably has a bigger audience, including kids that play it, than watch the TV show you're talking about. The only reason many old songs are remembered is because they're still promoted in some way. Like oldies & classic rock stations only play a few songs by a particular act over and over and other hits and acts are ignored. Why do people today know about the music of classical guys who lived hundreds of years ago and never recorded? Because orchestras still promote that music by playing and/or recording it. Renaissance Faires promote ancient music. If whatever it is was only used when it was released and not after that, then the Bible, Mark Twain, and many other old books would be long forgotten. Walt Disney would have never made Snow White & Sleeping Beauty. Every so often, CBS shows a newly colorized episode of I Love Lucy. It's A Wonderful Life is shown every Christmas. The Wonder Woman movie is a big hit and she was created in the 1940s. So still they're promoting her and Superman, Batman, Spiderman, etc. just like they're still promoting The Beatles.

Too much ignorance on this thread. Obviously they're a great band. You either get them or you don't, and if you don't it's your loss! They also probably invented more genres than anyone else. I hear heavy metal in Helter Skelter, Lo-fi in Long Long Long, dance-rock in Tomorrow Never Knows, funk rock in Good Morning Good Morning.

They made the best contribution to art rock of any band. But hell, what do I know when I conjecture that one of the songs off Zappa's debut album ('66) is hip hop!

(if you don't know your genres then you don't know shit from shinola and you shouldn't even be commenting here) goodbye wave

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

Interesting that people on the org think they know what Prince was familiar with more than Dr. Fink and Bobby Z. Guess that's the org for you. Anyhow, we already know very clearly the bands he idolized growing up because he always cited them and those are the ones that most influenced his first albums. Just because things are played around doesn't mean it's affecting how you see yourself as a musician and the sound you feel defines you. As there's clealy nothing sounding like the Beatles on any of his first albums we know that any influence they may have had on him was as Dr. Fink stated, very secondary, after they opened those doors for him.

Change it one more time..

Unlike all of the music snobs on this site with their so-called "real music by real musicians" I've always liked Top 40. I like adult contemporary & easy listening too. Some of my favorite songs are the George Martin instrumentals on A Hard Day's Night soundtrack (USA version). All music is real. smile

Didn't he tell Larry King that one of his influences was Fleetwood Mac? Someone once said When You Were Mine was the best song Fleetwood Mac never wrote.

Nobody is clowning top 40. I thnik what folks are talking about is a thoughtful diatribe denouncing the Beales while propping Roxette at the end.

I take it you've never been to the non Prince music section where people start threads like "Bryan Adams sucks", "why does Mariah Carey always make songs with rappers" & "Adele is boring, why is she so popular?" or the same people trashing Janet Jackson, Madonna, & Beyoncé all the time. lol
