Songs that take you places.

Sometimes Prince had a way of resonating with stuff that was happening in my life. His lyrics just somehow hit the nail on the head. I have this evening been in a somewhat reflective mood. Empty room came on my play list, taking me back to a time when the room really did feel empty. I can remember a time listening to this when my heart was in pieces. It made me think about other songs that summed up my feelings. Music I used to play full blast, just because they were about a situation I was in or an emotion I was feeling. I love you, but I don't trust you anymore, kind of made me make sense of a bad situation I found myself in. It's a special song to me because I gathered an understanding of how painful betrayal can be. How it's possible to feel love and incredible hurt at the same time.
Few artists cover the whole range of emotions for me. I am a huge fan of Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, Sade, Tracey Chapman among loads of others. All of them have stuff that is significant to me and what was going on at the time the music was first heard.
I can play Prince and he covers everything from my first kiss right up to losing my parents and everything happy and sad in between. He did put it out there with with his music, long time fans grew up with him and shared his journey.
I feel a little selfish for thinking that after the crazy, wild, sad and mad years I enjoyed him, now at 52 I don't know who is going to take me into my future crazy years. I pray he has this covered in the vault.

Well said! I share your sentiment. I'm glad I can still listen to a song and find a different meaning, notice something-a gnarly lick, anything I didn't notice before. And it feels new again. I do hope they will release the vault so that we can enjoy our golden years like we want!!
