Yep. And it was played in a redneck-y bar, which made it a bit surreal and slightly comical.

I once led an impromptu conga line in a country bar to Billy Idols version of Mone Mone..dont ask, but I understand the rnb in a countryass bar being a hit with the patrons..but Mone Mone was a universal hit compared to BJB though so that is surreal

I'm with you, OP. I'd most definitely go with DMSR. The groove hits so hard from the very beginning. EVERYONE smiles and starts bobbing their heads when it comes on!

That is really funny. I used to go to a rednecky gay bar in Tennessee and they would play it there. All of us loved it.

Is it any good?

DJing? Yes, it was a lot of fun. As I said, it's great to be able to play your favourite tracks on a professional grade sound system. I wasn't a pro by any means – we just started throwing nights to raise money for art projects, exhibitions and so on, and we eventually came to an arrangement with a couple of local clubs. I was chosen simply because I had the most extensive vinyl collection and worked with audio gear. This was in the late 90s/early 2000s when a standard set-up still consisted of turntables, CD players and a mixer. There wasn't many local places playing genuine funk at that time (lots of disco/acid jazz/"funky" house nights), so our sets were quite novel. As a rule, Prince wasn't particularly well respected among my peers, so I always made a point of playing his back-catalogue as much as I could. I played IDM as well, and would often segue his Camille tracks into stuff like Funny Little Man by Aphex Twin and then Parliament's Dr. Funkenstein or Mr Wiggles - it worked pretty well (to my mind at least). Erotic City still sounded fresh next to that IDM stuff. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was having my old vinyl hanging around a bunch of drunk/high people (which usually included myself!). Things are different now, of course – why not give it a try?

My first thought was Erotic City. I wanted something with a little more funk; so I went to 777-9311... final selection: Get it Up (it may have been performed by The Time; but it's still a Prince song).

I got to agree with this. This is that deep kind of funk. Cameo and Ohio Players and Pfun all rolled into it. He went deep with this one. It's a shame that the cartoon funk (afkaprinceofdarness) of What Time Is It overtakes it in people's opinions
