This is my favourite Prince song.

Like everyone I also adore the 12" version, but the album version of the 'proper' portion of the song (Part 1) has a much better mix than the 12".

This song and Anna Stesia are my two favorite songs on Lovesexy.

I love the 12" version, too, but I am more partial to the album version because the message of unconditional love and forgiveness is a tad stronger in the short(er) album version, whereas the extra lyrics and music on the 12" are great, but distract a little bit from the original song and message.

But I´m glad we have both versions.

.

What is different about the 12" mix? I´ve never noticed any differences in the mix....but then again I probably haven´t paid much attention to such details.

Is it a completely new recording or were the extra parts just added afterwards?

It´s weird that Jon Bream, of all people, didn´t really like this song back when Lovesexy was released. I think the song is superb.

The beautifully lush “I Wish U Heaven” is another underrated gem in Prince’s overflowing chest of musical treasures. His angelic falsetto is in particularly fine form as he navigates the cascading synths, glistening strings, and chugging guitar riffs that give the song its divine glow. The lyrics describe how faith in God’s sovereign plan overrules life’s temporary roadblocks (see Romans 15:13). Clocking in at only 2:44 (or 10:17 if your soul can handle the 12-inch’s euphoric Blue Guitar solo and “Take This Beat” freestyle), “I Wish U Heaven” straddles the lines between gospel, pop, and rock, sounding as fresh and alive as it did back in 1988.

I wish more of his Maxi-Singles had the "I Wish U Heaven" / "Scandalous" / "Gett Off" "New Power Generation" treatment.
Mini EP's in their own right. True variations around the song. "Glam Slam" was kinda disappointing, it's clear he didn't have the time and it was the work of a PP engineer.
Even "Hot Thing" is meh. Not awful, but it sounds too clean, whereas the album version sounds just dirty, like it should.

It's probably my favorite P's 12'' ( thinking about it, "Scarlet Pussy" is a Camille B-Side, and there are not many of it), but "Pop Life / Hello" comes very, very close.

Slightest song on his finest album, kinda slips right by almost unnoticed within the LS song cycle... Not an ideal single choice... BUT my personal fave 12".

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Oh yeah, definitely a milestone too...

I remember back in the days I was as excited by a new maxi-single popping up at the Wrecka Stow as I was for a new album.
Like you knew he was going to give you a B side with a previously unheard song on it.
