Hmm, I notice The Stick off the first Time album has finally been added to streaming.

It also sounds to me like it's been, dare I say it, remastered? Or at least volume adjusted in some way?

Go listen, maybe I just have my speakers set funny today.

I bought The Time from Amazon a few years ago and they had Autorip for the album but the only song not on Autorip was The Stick. The main reason for buying The Time album was that song so i was pissed when i was made to wait for the physical release to arrive.

Everything on YouTube is downloadable. Use a modern browser like Chrome, Firefox or Safari and install an extension to give the browser that capability.

Madhouse and The Family were both Paisley Park imprints on Warner Bros. Records, prior to the actual joint venture. PPR was headed by Alan Leeds until 1991, and dissolved in 1994, but it too was actually a subsidiary of WBR. WBR probably needed Prince's consent to release any of these to streaming, which he would not have given. They have never show any interest in physical re-releases, which would cost real money. Seems like they're just throwing out whatever they have in their possession now since Prince is no longer around to say no.

I don't know why but I get this strange vibe that somebody around here likes Jill Jones. I think I'm psychic or something.

Yep Tidal have the best quality download. FLAC quality is so much better

TIDAL HI FI is not actual hi definition like HDtracks.com,It's the flac version of the CD.

The Family is definitely on Spotify. It's hard to find by artist or album name, trying searching for one of the songs, then click (even then, it's bringing up songs by other groups with the same or similar names).

why not just rip your album or cd, or someone else's, for that matter, and put it in a place where it cannot just disappear overnight? Until you have files without DRM or a physical form, you don't have access to the music. Guess I'm old fashioned.

Because I dont have Jill Jones, only a wack cdr that was recorded with skips and missin parts of songs for some reasn (deterioration?) etc uploaded.

I have he Madhouse on cd/casette (lol) and The Fam casette and uploaded from somewhere.

The 3 seminal PP releases with primo material.

Jill Jones is missing from that classic Paisley Protege triumverate imho.

All of which have been available in 320 and probably also Flac on P2P networks for more than a decade... There isn't a single Prince side project that can't be found in less than half an hour...

According to Alan Leeds, the masters for most PP records were given back to Prince in 1994. He wasn't sure about The Family though, because it may have been before that arrangement was made between WB and Prince.

We know for sure that Prince got TV and HMSMF, back, since they were rereleased by Edel in 1995 without any mention of being licenced by WB and with a (p) NPG Records notice.

According to a former Edel executive, 8 was also supposed to be rereleased by Edel in 1994-95, alongside several other PP records.

We know for sure that Wb retained rights to the Sheila E. albums and Pandemonium, since those were rereleased by WB after 1994, in either physical or digital format.

The status of the Reprise/PP and TDK/PP joint ventures, if any different, is unknown.

This is what we know, assuming of course Leeds and the Edel exec weren't mistaken or lying.

it's my experience that official digital tracks rarely meet my standards for id3 data, so I have to edit them regardless of wether I rip them myself, buy them online or download through P2P. In fact, for any CD that has reading errors, I prefer downloading flac through P2P and re-encode to Apple Lossless. Precious few allow download to Apple Lossless. I think the last Wendy & Lisa and most Vulfpeck (only Prince related if you follow a "once removed" rule) albums were the exception to that rule, iirc.

.

Meaning, downloading from the Apple or other online store will not make things meaningfully simpler, as you still need to do the work of correctly tagging the files.

The Family (and JJ) couldn't have been part of the actual PPR catalogue since the label technically didn't exist until 1987. Madhouse 8 was released in February, so it may also be an "imprint" release as well.

The operative question is where the source recordings for all of these re-releases are being obtained. Are they solely those in WBR's possession? I haven't seen anything to indicate that the estate is actually transferring possession or control of recordings held at the physical PP facility to WBR. I have difficulty believing these two are just clever bootlegger uploads, but then again, Deliverance was streaming on all of these services without any apparent copyright clearance or other pre-release due diligence.

audiophiles? This is about the tags... As far as lossless.. that is simply that files can be edited or changed to a different format without quality loss. It's not like audiophiles have too much to find in Prince's archives. cool

.

As to tagging, isn't it important to you that capitalisation is correct? That sorting for last name is done? That Prince & The Revolution, Prince and the NPG and Prince are put together? That you can group all Prince protege bands together?

.

I guess feel I've got OCD. I'm not denying that. biggrin

I don't have this problem with Winamp. My files are filed by my PC, not my music player. Album titles and credits are correct, made by me. Songs tags aren't a concern. When I wanna play an album, I just look for it in the drive and slide it into Winamp. End of story.
