That's the point. He's behind the beat in an exagerate way.The blues is so greasy with funk, it weighs a ton. The guitar ejaculates, Prince moans, squeaks and screams, it's the perfect polar opposite to the delicacy of "Condition Of The Heart".

I think it's fair to say that the vocal performance is one of his very, very best, probably top 5. He's not being polymorphic for kicks. He means it. This is the last song before he leaves behind the "Dirty Mind" years, and dive into the Christopher Tracy character.

I mean c'm'on. Speaking of critics, another said that Temptation was Elvis, Iggy, Janis Joplin, Marylin Monroe, John Cage all rolled into one. What's not to like? This is sex totally staged and lived, I can understand the blues structure is somewhat disappointing compared to the brilliance of the chord structure of "It". "It" is way classier, and "Sex" after all, is only "Temptation" having being raped by "Kiss". Stylistically, "Temptation" is more in the league of "Hi School", "Horny Toad", "Jack U Off". It's still Prince revamping rock'n'roll, but from a dreamed fantasmatic drugged L.A. point of view. The whole song is a play.

The whole first part exists for the tension of the second one. Just when you think he's only bragging (listen to this, I can be any chanteuse I want), there's the surprise of a second part that has nothing to do with showing off. The progressions are fantastic, the intertwining of the synths and the piano, Eddie is an alien.

Prince's dialogue with God (which is the apex of the Purple Rain Tour show), "Temptation" fits perfectly well with "God (vocal)", which is all about spiritual intimacy, and "God (Instrumental)", which is all about spiritual extasy. God as a pop music study subject.

"Temptation" is about God punishing. No wonder it's not liked.
But if you can appreciate some Renaissance christian Gods of Wrath paintings, it's the same subject: God almighty a fascinating concept. There, "Temptation" is apocalyptical rock'n'roll (naysayers crowd chuckles). Dies Irae.

A genre of its own, my friend.

I don't have a problem with the ending of Temptation
I love those dark private interactions he puts on songs, which is why I love God(the Dance Electric) and Condition of the Heart

"God" is a bit eccentric but not in a bad way.

"Temptation" is a very good song and not at all Daffy.

"The Wedding Fest" is a bit daffy

But I would say "Starfish and Coffee" and "Crystal Ball" are more Daffy/eccentric.

no i love "come on" great song... love the old man disguise! And the clip of him talking to the girls, who had no idea who he was. He tells them "I got the butter for your muffin, I'm just too old to hold the knife"

Songs like God, Solo, Temptation etc, are songs that challenge even Prince fans. They're on some Björk type weird shit. Alot of Prince fans that just loves his pop, rock and dance music hits don't really get it when he's being weird or more eccentric than usual. Tambourine is another example of this part of him. The part of his output that to be honest, makes Prince PRINCE. His eccentric nature and willingnes to go further is what seperates him from other musicians.

Wedding Feast is more like something from a musical. Kinda like if he was making music for a Broadway show. It's not really bad, it's just him having some fun. People are taking that stuff too seriously.
