You need some decent stereo system, a good pair o'headphones, maybe a Q-tip or something.
The production, sound design and overdubs are exceptional on "Happy Birthday", and on "Blue Limousine" as well. Most of the Apollonia 6 album is a feast for the ear (given you don't listen to music through some plastic shitty chip made in Cheapa).
Sex Shooter sounds like shit though. Worse, the composition has become senseless.

Whereas TGL doesn't age at all.

A great tune and masterfully produced. Has a Glamorus Life feel to it speaking of a boy and girl falling in love. This time however it is the guy with all the cash and the girl who is the one falling over in love... What went down..I dont wanna say Think this one was also co-produced by Levi. Very underrated along wioth Boys Club.

I'd love to hear the Prince version. All I have as alternate is a version where Prince can be heard singing with a women, but I can't really tell if it is Apollonia, Jill Jones or Sheila E. What I do know is that I'd love to hear a version with only Prince on lead vocal (and without the sax).

There's a je-ne-sais-quoi in the murkiness of a bootlegged 10th generation K7... "There's Others Here With Us" through a tape hiss, and foggy trebles, in the dark, you shit your pants on the spot.

Which basically resumes Prince's work.

This is one of many productions where Prince overdubs the Linn with his mouth.
I wish there was a record of Prince beatboxing only.
One very overlooked aspect of Prince's genius is how he finely tunes the percussive sounds. Everything is tuned to perfection in TGL. It's an atmosphere.

What a fabulous instrumental coda. That human voice sounding synth bass arpeggios at the very end! How does he do that?

Notice the double kick part: it's exactly the same rythmic figure that's played on the low toms at the end of "Sign 'O' The Times". Could it be the same part sampled and processed? It goes up and down just like in SOTT.

Prince's version is really good.

The Glamorous Life literally changed my life from the moment I first saw the video in May of 1984. It's everything, from the Linn drum beats to the sax and cello, but above all the percussion! So that is why Prince's solo version pales in comparison, it's the damn cowbells man!

Anyone who thinks the Prince version is better should get their ears checked
