In retrospect, I think it ended perfectly. His life and career had come full circle. He died on the day he recorded Sometimes it Snows. He died shortly after performing a great concert in Atlanta, hosting a party for fans at Paisley, hanging out at the record store, riding his bike, recording music, hanging out with friends, etc. Death is always tragic. Often times something could have been done by the person or others. But, death is reality and always sad. We wanted him to somehow die of old age. That is fantasy. If he had died in a car accident because he was texting or slipped in the shower or had some horrible form of cancer would we feel any better? I would actually feel worse. I really think it was a perfect ending. We need to embrace it even though it breaks our heart.

Prince always had a bigger picture in his worldview and although many people had run ins and disagreements, problems, much of it was due to him just seeing things too broadly for all the average folks. That in no way excuses his very real mistakes.

Sorry but I don´t get the bolded parts. What do you think he was trying to say?

well, much was made over how the glasses were removed right before he died and it revealed two closed eyes and the third eye open along with a teardrop. I assumed everyone had heard about that, and also, someone had said that there was some kind of font that he was gradually adding too which formed his symbol, that too was finished right before he died. People talk about how he made plans but everyone makes plans if they have any fight left in them, Bruce Lee knew he'd die at 32 yet he was going forward everyday, and that might have been a part of his problem. Elvis was heading out on a tour even though he was really in no condition to sing.

Ah, I see. I remember that third eye with a tear but didn´t really know what to think of it back then. And I told a friend and fellow Prince fan that I was worried about Prince being dead real soon, and then, two days later, he was really dead. I wish I had been wrong.

What you are saying about that font was, if I recall correctly, not a font issue but rather him arranging his instagram pictures in a way that resembled the <+o symbol when completed.

I like how you often mention Elvis and Bruce Lee. I really like Bruce Lee and have watched probably all his documentaries.

But I didn´t know that he knew he´d be dead by the age of 32.

Another question, how would Prince have handled all of the attention heaped on him if he had gotten help in time? The media was already swarming that week after the plane od. They would've gotten wind of him in a treatment center too. Do you think Prince's ego would've allowed him to deal with the world knowing he had a drug problem, who knows for how long, given that many thought he lived a drug free life? Would he have handled all of that kind of attention well?

Bruce had told people he wouldn't live past 32 or rather that he would live half as long as his father who died at 64. He mentioned to several people how he almost died previously and told co-star of enter the dragon, John saxon that "maybe there won't be a bruce lee". supposedly a fortune teller told him he'd die at 32 also. who knows, maybe it was a self fulfilling prophecy, i can tell you this, there is a lot more to reality than we really focus on. Lots of strange things happen, look at Aaron Hernandez, what the hell was he doing writiing illuminati and christ stigmata on his cell and body? wierd shit, what does it all mean? who the hell knows. lots of mystery out there.

it would have been hellish for him, i'm sure. even though it was really not uncommon or really any big deal, it was Prince and his image was all about being in control. Even postdeath his cook said he'd only take one bite of a cake. that's the kind of stories we always heard about him, damn, i wish i had that kind of discipline, i just pigged out on some chicken tenders and potato salad fuck, shit was good though.

I agree that this was weighing on his mind. There is no way he wasn't anguished at the thought that his life-long, clean-living image was about to be destroyed. And there would be no way for him to ever control the Prince image/narrative again. Think about it...the Prince mystique about to be blown up, isn't THAT a kind if death? So maybe he simply didn't care which pill he put in his body. Not a conscious suicide but rather...like always, 'I'm going to let God decide.'

someone on here who attended the saturday show before his death said he looked pissed. Poor guy, shame and secrecy are really unhealthy. Not that i don't understand it, people are vile creatures so you really do have to be careful with the info people have about you. everyone does and people do not need to know everything about a person especially if they'll turn around and hurt that person with the info. I think most of us can understand that.

Here's the simple answer--any way but the way it did. And anyone who claims that this was a death of a man in control is not facing the facts. He was heading into a plan to break his addiction to a substance he was using illegal scripts to get hold of. There's no control in that. He had almost died days earlier. He was in his elevator, for crying out loud--discovered by people trying to help him kick his addiction. There's no plan here, there's no control freak--there's a man out of control, who didn't make it quite long enough to get the help he was already planning to get, because he took a drug that was mislabeled (so he didn't even have control of that). It was stupid, and a very talented, complex, but (I believe) basically good man who gave those of us here and many others so much through his hard work, incredible talent, and (through most of his life) self control and focus left this world in a way that has absolutely no redeeming aspects. There is nothing good in or about his death. He's dead. He shouldn't be. End of story.

.
I agree.
The last two years were an escalation. The 2014 Rolling Stone interviewer mentioned how good he looked.
.
He had to maintain the physical facade. When he performed, he had to move ... even in the last performances.
He mentioned once, a few years before, that his leg locked up afterwards, and that's likely when the pain hit the worst.
Hence the plane OD after a performance.
.
He didn't want to die but he was denying a problem until the last days.
.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I think there is too much of an assumption that he had a problem with regular pain management.

In my review of the evidence presented it was said that they found no prescriptions under his name and no aliases with prescriptions. So when you look at the evidence and they found all of these pills they found two bottles with Kirk's name with 24 and 1/2 pills and another bottle with 22 and 1/2 pills and the bottle of Advil with 16 1/2 pills. The problem is the bottle of Bayer with the fake Vicodin.

Now I am a superstitious man and when someone who suddenly dies from a OD and they were found with scrips and a bottle of counterfeit meds appear I start thinking bad thoughts.

He was getting legal meds through fraud so he could have gotten these pills the same way yet this bottle of fake pills should be blinking a big red neon sign.

Another big red neon sign blinking is the lack of a will.

So until I see the real investigation or crime scene photos I believe that the so called official story of what happened here is incorrect.

So what thoughts does your big red neon sign trigger in you?

And why didn´t he just get his pills, no matter how strong, from a regular doctor?

Why would he even bother getting them illegally?

A doctor has to be discreet and keep things confidential, so there really was no reason for not getting them from a doctor..with a legit prescription.

And yes, the lack of a will is weird, especially for someone like Prince who cared so much about the legalitiies regarding his catalog.

I don´t want this thread to take on a conspirational direction but I´m really wondering what really happened. So, what is your take on this?

I thought the little guy would settle down and propose to a woman 20 years his junior, continue to record and tour sporadically well into his 70s.

I had visions of him teaching music courses at a Minnesota college and inviting his students to jam with him at Paisley Park. I think he would've been a great teacher. sad Then, he would pass away peacefully of natural causes at home maybe in his early 80's.

He was getting frail.

Now this could be from illness or addiction but the people around him are saying he was still creating and he still had a spark in his eyes.

However lets go with the addiction angle.

He's in "grave" danger and they call a noted addiction specialist in California. Who in a frantic effort to save Prince he sends his Boy Wonder son with a pack to wean him until he gets to California and on the morning this intervention is to occur they are too late Prince is dead.......

Bullshit.

Whole thing is a bullshit story from Van Jones weeping to the battle for his estate.

Van Jones strikes me as one of those people who are genuinely sad and devastated but then again, what do I know?

I agree with you that there the circumstances are very odd and leave a lot of question marks. Makes you wonder if we´ll ever know what really happened. Then again, if there really WAS more to this then what we are being told, I´d expect more of his close friends and bandmembers to stand up and speak up about their doubts. So far, everybody seems to be going with the official story.

A very provocative headline.

Sometimes I forget that I didn't think Prince was going to die last year. Now, little over a year later, it seems impossible to imagine it happening any other way. To think, that tonight Prince could have been hosting one of his usual Saturday nights at Paisley Park, or putting on a show somewhere, making music, or even posting zany cryptic messages on twitter - in other words, that things could have been business as usual in Prince world - is really saddening.

But, to answer the question, I believed that Prince would be like Bob Dylan, still making music and performing well into old age. I don't think he would have ever settled down. He would have just continued being Prince until the end, which in exactly what he did, the end just came much sooner than I could have guessed.

If you'd have told me Prince would have died in a manner that almost perfectly mirrored the lyrics and metaphor for life/death to "let's go crazy"....I'd have told you that it sounded poetic and kinda beautiful.

-
It's all perspective: I think the fact that he died in April, with his original "For You" hairstyle, obsessed with moon cycles/symbols, while playing his most career summative, introspective, open, intimate concerts is also quite amazing.
-
Am I sad he's gone? Yes.
-
Is he really "gone." Eye say no. He lives on thru his art. He left so much for us in the vault and otherwise...
