Most of the famous ones weren't computer fonts, but were hand drawn. (Purple Rain title, Sign 'O' The Times, Lovesexy or the arabic looking one on prince ) There are some recreated font files floating around for these too, but they are poor imitations.

By the time his album artwork started to get really ugly (Emancipation, NewPower Soul etc.), he was using some fonts by Chank Diesel.
.
For the lyrics, he was using fonts of course, like 'Mistral' for the Purple Rain lyrics, for example.

Well, in my defense, I had never made a font (there was precious little kerning and such because of it) and it took me ages to scan all the different lowercase and uppercase letters. Never mind creating a number of characters that weren't available by taking parts of letters.

.

For me it was a learning experience. I did send it to another fan that asked for it and now it seems to be the only version I can find of the Sign Of The Times font. I keep wondering if I shouldn't have done it and then someone better at it would have made it or if then there wouldn't be a somewhat useable font out there...

.

Still, I agree, the font (well, the one I made) is a poor imitation. I still see it being used at times though!

I had no idea you've made it and of course I didn't mean to offend! I have made some fonts ages ago in Fontographer and I know it's a tedious task! Especially if you're trying to make a font out of hand-drawn letterings with many different variants of the same letter. That's what I meant on "poor imitations": it's simply impossible to make a font with lot of variants of each letter, so no matter how great a job you do, it won't look as nice and varied as the hand-drawn text.

Yup, Fontographer. Took me ages. Learned a lot. And no offence taken, it takes a lot to offend me. You'd have to express a love for that one Prince track I hate or something. wink

.

I completely agree though. I've always hated that all letters were the same, as opposed many different ways they were drawn on the records. I'm still somewhat proud of the stuff I put in there that noone will ever see. €©®℗ that kinda stuff. It's fun to mess with easter eggs.
