Prince was The Man.

As more than a year has passed since our beloved Prince transitioned, I see more than EVER how he was really at the CENTER of Everything...this huge legacy he created. He held everything and everyone around him together.

This one Man.

All the people: the men and women musicians, the bands, the music, the Minneapolis Sound, the other types of artists he worked with, the journalists, the friends and associates, the girlfriends and wives, the "fans"...

at the center of it ALL was this One Man.

The sayings, the humor, the purple, the internet, the record companies, the mystery, the waiting for new music (surprises), the fun, the courage, the vulnerability, the human desire, the traumas, the paradoxes, the sex, the allure, the beauty...

The spirituality, the mentoring, the encouragement, the altruism, the living healthy, the love for animals, the social messages appealing for peace, compassion and to love one another, the equality...and most importantly the LOVE.

What a BIG LIFE.

It's no wonder we all miss him so.

All of these controversies regarding Prince after his death which includes ravings about books, reformed groups, who is profiting off of what now, what are the motives of ex lives and ex band members and all of the fans opinions, motives, and feelings, make it clear just how much Prince had in his plate and had to deal with. Keeping everything working and functional in several circles and areas. He did mention these things minimally when he discussed in the 80s how he had to manage bands and their emotions and wants. It is tough to be a conglomerate of one.

He kept all of this bs at bay while alive. No wonder he had to be a harsh taskmaster and such. This includes keeping his withholding close to the vest and being strict about his work which included crackdowns on bootlegs, NDA's about his life, and all those matters. Because rarely did any of this controversy come to light. Now he is gone and everyone has went buck wild. Like Jimmy Jam said, he was the parent and everyone else were the kids. I mean. I expected some of this but not for years later down the line. Like 20 years from now. And not so ugly.

I was always critical and side eyed about some shit that went down. Especially the emotional abuse he reportedly put some people through. But Im not talking about that really. I'm talking about him as a whole person who had all of these lives on his shoulder in some ways and how much he held things down by the showing of everyone now running around with things. Its amazing. Of course he was known as a control freak, and I know, as others, the reasoning why, the etiology of it etc. But never knew how much really since his death has brought about all of this..this humanity, good and bad. I respected him for the music and his ethic. I never realized how much more he deserved a different kind of respect just for holding it down so well.

Yes, Rdhull.

He wasn't perfect.
And he had huge expectations put on him, or that he created himself by creating what he did, which he really felt was an obligation, an actual necessity, he couldn't stop the music from coming out of his pores.

I understand why he felt he had to protect himself, be in control, etc...in order to keep doing this, and also to give, which was the really big obligation he felt.

Thank you for saying some of what else I was thinking. I figured his imperfections would be discussed too.

Laydown

P was the man. I think people forget that he was a man,not God. People seem to think he was superhuman. He was one of us but a genius, musically. Everyone has faults and shortcomings and issues. P didnt see himself different from others but he was certainly treated differently.
