I would love for this website to allow fans to buy hard copies of albums that are out-of-print, like Diamonds and Pearls, , Emancipation, and Musicology. I have looked on Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, FYE.com, FYE stores, and various brick and mortar stores. I have yet to find any new copies of these aforementioned albums. I have Diamonds and Pearls on iTunes. It's my second favourite Prince album, and I would like to have a new, official hard copy.

It would not have made any sense to not add extra tracks and I remember reading that they found paperwork for this project on his desk. Why would WB put the Katrina's Paper Dolls track on this project. Was this sought after by collectors or is it on here because of Vanity?

Why put the hallway speech version of Computer Blue. I doubt anyone at WB knows much about bootlegs and what fans might be looking for. I was looking for the funky version of Darling Nikki but you do not see that on this project.

We know some reneogation took place with WB and the estate via the courts doc so they surely have full access to the vault now and I do believe they have some rights to vault material from the WB years. I believe this is the reason UMG is backing out of the deal.

I think this is the last of the Prince contribution to WB projects.

You're wrong on that. He did oversee it. He owns the album now, so he had to check-off on this. Dr. Funkenberry, who knew Prince personally, first broke the news in 2014 of the PR Deluxe.

There is some logic in the 2nd disk w/ the vault stuff on it. Was that part of the original deal? Or was it just some of the extended stuff, etc, for the 2nd disk? But - maybe we'll know for sure in time.

That's because of the Purple Ran remaster, EI is the track they've made available now and it's available to buy everywhere. Spotify, Apple, Amazon etc. Would have been weird if Tidal didn't have it.

I believe that he had different terms for each project concerning licensing. At this point the media is reporting that the soundtracks are licensed to WB forever and that some albums are licensed to WB internationally forever.

I suspect that something similar happened with Tidal. That get to stream certain albums for a certain time frame and others albums had a shorter time frame. I know some albums that were on Tidal at the beginning of the deal are gond and some get removed and then come back.

This stuff is so like Prince. Constanly setting things up to throw everyone off and making these suits work their asses off to try a capitalize off his hard work.

Gotcha. I thought about that after I posted the message, that it's probably what you meant. But either way - it's what the album really needed to make it worthwhile. The remastering is desirable of course, but that 3rd disk (the 2nd originally probably) is filler 7" versions. Who needs that crap? We have the 7" versions of some of those on The Hits, The Very Best Of, and Prince4Ever. How many times can you put the 3:34 version of "When Doves Cry" on a record?

No matter when it was added, but the outtakes are pretty rad. So I'm not going on the "Prince wouldn't have wanted this" because nothing is ever going to be perfect, and frankly we never got what should have been done ages ago because of Prince. At one point about 20 years ago, Prince said in an interview "I wonder about that too", when the journalist asked him why his albums, like Sign '☮️' The Times, weren't being remastered. He never seemed very interested in it at all, and maybe that's because WB still owned them. Maybe it's because he was just being Prince.

I used to say it would take Prince dying before we ever really saw the vault. Unfortunately, that is a reality now, but let's roll with it, and enjoy this stuff for what it is - the music.

I'm of the opinion that Prince wouldn't have released this outtakes disc, but don't confuse that with me thinking it shouldn't be put out. I'm very happy we're getting to hear these tracks and while I'd rather Prince was still with us and creating new music, that sadly isn't the case. And under the circumstances we are left with I want to hear as much as possible before I also head to the great beyond.
