Thanks guys....

Would like to weigh in on "The MONEY"

I am with you...

I dont care where the money goes now either..

Its NOT lining Princes Pockets as you said.

the Estate is going to do very well regardless

Anyone now, who talks about Prince in any way is accused of Cashing in....

I have wondered WHy NO Will....At first I thought there was one

then the more time has passed I can see that NOT Having a will is Princes FINAL F U

He was all about the music,

The jackals are all trying to claim ownership over what was HIS,

that which HE worked his cute lil arse off....

He knew that his siblings would stand to inherit..

He always referred to his music as his Children, but since he didnt have any

well....

He was quoted numerous times as saying that one day he would give his music away

THis is HIM doing just that

No will...

that was HIS WILL

His life and work is going to be studied for all time...

he made it to "the Everlasting NOW"

sorry to derail the thread so early on ...had to get that out...

MY Overall rating for Deliverance EP

3.5 Stars

Its not one I will listen to when I need my Prince FIX

Favorite Track I am ( extended) coz he is lol

This is another fantastic review and listen.Thank you for this, you are by some distance, the best at reviewing princes music. My only slight moan with it, is you didn't give it an overall rating to finish. You went into the morals of the whole thing instead. I'm just nicpicking mind. So thanks again guys.

Just quickly re: the single edits rant at the start. Some of us DO want single edits released on CD/digital.

It's not that we want them INSTEAD of the full version or the 12" version. We want them in addition to, because they are unique versions of these songs. They're not always just fade outs, sometimes they have unique mixing or other elements (even if they are small differences). It's a completist thing for sure, but just to say single edits aren't superfluous. smile

Full versions for me, please. And I'd like to hear the extended version of I AM. Plus, I'm grateful to have any new Prince music these days no matter what the source. Thanks for the show, guys, and continue to do them. Congrats on the podcast award! cool

Yeah, that's a good point. Still, wouldn't you rather a full disc of the Extended Versions or outtakes than single edits?

.

For me, if I were in charge of putting together a 3CD 'Purple Rain Deluxe' set, it would look like this:
.
Disc 1 - The remastered album, closing the disc out with "Jungle Love", "The Bird", "Sex Shooter" and "Modernaire"
Disc 2 - Extended Versions (released and unreleased) and B-Sides
Disc 3 - Purple Rain era outtakes

.

Oh I definately agree. Most of these were released on 4ever so it makes them a bit superfluous here, but in general - I like a complete package. Give me the 7" mixes, the extended versions, the out-takes, EVERYTHING! lol

Great review of a great E.P., which is one of the strongest Prince 'releases' in years. It's really interesting to hear how the music bridges the Planet Earth and Lotusflower albums. The suite of I Am/Touch Me/Sunrise Sunset/No One Else is fantastic. I love the melodies and chord changes in Touch Me/Sunrise Sunset (and even the 'flimsy' vocals in Sunrise Sunset). The unusual instrumentation reminds me of '77 Beverly Park', especially the harpsicord in 'Sunrise Sunset'.

And I agree completely, left to the estate this would have probably never have seen the light a day. Ian Boxhill might have been trying to make money - but of course he is (and rightfully so!).

Thank you for another great review and discussion of Prince's music.
Like you guys I wish the EP also contained the original tracks, unaltered, plus would have been more honest to have some explainer notes around the context of these tracks rather than a mea culpa a day after the proverbial hit the fan.
.
Also agree with your opinion on money making and books about Prince and by people who were close to Prince. This Mayte bashing in particular is so stupid, really don't get it. Especially given that she was part of an important decade/era in Prince's life just as the Revolution was the decade before, in different roles for sure but in the nineties Prince had musicians for hire and Mayte must have inspired him big time. Emancipation is one big love letter to her and the unborn child, imho.
.
Just a suggestion but why wait for official unofficial releases from the vault and not review some significant bootleg "releases"? E.g. The Undertaker? Loring Park Sessions?

These were incomplete songs. No telling how much of them is left from the original vision. If someone had done this to moonbeam levels everyone would freak

Because it is okay to steal. Well I guess the courts do not see it that way.

You shut up and enjoy the track you have because you will not be getting the test of it per the courts. Go catch up with that leech Ian and RMA music and think about who might backing these ass clowns financially.

Since Prince died no release official or unofficial means nothing now, theyre not released by Prince,so to me its all about cashing in. Fuck evryone and their releases, dont compare and never will.
