If anyone at WB is reading: stick to Bernie Grundman for the mastering of the next Deluxe albums.
I mean kidnap and lock the guy in the Vault for the next decade, and have him remaster the whole eighties material.
He truly knows how to bring the best out of Prince's studio work. He knows what analog sound means, and I wonder if we're going to have the chance to get a vinyl out of this. AAA would be a miracle, but judging by this, AD/DA will do as well.
I'm sorry, but Paisley Park never sounded that good.
Nothing beats the Kiowa Trail and the Sunset Sound consoles.

This, or rather, these vocal deliveries leave me speechless.
The Kid will continue to astonish music lovers long after he's gone.

As addictive as the studio version of Electric Intercourse is, it does make me want the First Avenue concert just that little bit more.

I wonder if there is an alternate version based on the live version (with the addition of strings), or if that was just a fan theory that's been taken as fact after all these years.

On two listens (courtesy of Spotify UK) I'm not overly impressed.

It just doesn't sound like a genuinely finished piece, nevermind a contender for Purple Rain. As a few have said, it sounds 1999-era. I can only guess there's another version in the Vault if a finished recording if this was seriously considered.

Here's hoping it gets joined by a pristine audio version of the live '83 rehearsal.

Ok, I just listened to this version of Electric Intercourse, and it's amazing. Fun fact, we've heard the beat of this version before in the movie Purple Rain. It's the scene when the girl is crying backwards on a cassette tape the Kid was playing for Apollonia( before the instrumental to God is played). Play that scene and you'll see what I mean.

The studio version is certainly addictive, but not as powerful. It's always hard to tell as we usually gavitate to the version we heard first....but I've got a gut feel, based on the sheer power of the live delivery at First Avenue, that an overdubbed live version would have been the album cut.

This studio version has more production similarity with Moonbeam Levels than it does The Beautiful Ones. It sounds an earlier production. In fact, when the beat kicks it, I can almost here ' Yesterday I tried to write a novel'.

Agreed! This version is great. It' suniquely Prince -something only he could get away with.

The live version though, features possibly the best live vocals Prince has ever delivered, but also some of the best playing by the Revolution.

There are some similarities but they are not the same beat. In the video below, the music you guys are referring to starts at about 0:25.

Black day, stormy night/No love, no hope in sight...
Don't cry, he is coming/Don't die, without knowing...
The Cross.

Electric Intercouse is probably my top unrealeased track of all time (I have the demo versions on constant replay in my car!). I just heard the studio version and I love it!! I especially love that it is different than the demos and live versions (but of course it is still the electric intercouse that we know and love!). This made my night and might go down as the best thing that happened during this diffiicult April! I am looking forward to the release (wish there were actually 2 discs of unrealeased material as promised, but what can u do!). This song is beautiful!! Thank u Prince! music music

I'm sorry, but this blows the First Avenue version out of the water. The First Avenue version is one of the most emotional things I've ever heard, but this is even more plaintive. And yet, it's so sexually intense in a way the live one didn't even approach.

There are no demo versions. There are two rehersal versions and a live one from the PR era.

No. It was intended for Purple Rain, but a shortly after (within the week) he recorded "The Beautiful Ones", and that was a superior song for the purposes of a soundtrack. I do think it should have been a b-side, though. There was no need for "Baby I'm A Star" as a b-side to "Take Me With U". That's where "Electric Intercourse" belonged.

It is hard to hear another version, though. I agree. There was more emotion, etc. on the First Avenue takes. But, if you just listen to it as an outtake from that synergy of post 1999-tour into working on Purple Rain, it makes sense. The drum pattern is quite similar to "The Beautiful Ones", and a tad faster in BPM. It's nice to hear the lyrics without distortion from a VHS tape and a non-soundboard audio source.

I think in the overall realm of this deluxe edition, it'll sound right at home.

I definitely heard a live performance that he did not to long ago which sounded great ( where he wouldn't sing "electric intercourse"), but I have not heard the better rehearsal that u are referring to ....hmmm eek I am curious what that edited rehearsal is on....

For me, this version of EI has more of a 1999 feel than a PR feel to it.

I know it'll grow on me, but the live version is one of my favs.

Cant wait to hear the rest of the unreleased stuff. cool

Well it was recorded in 1983 so that only makes sense.....think of the intense amount of output in '83/84 and the musical transition he was going through from RnB Punk Funk hipster to worldwide rockstar!
