Purple Rain Deluxe/Expanded CDs avail for preorder on Warner Bros. NO SECOND DVD!

Warners has CD/DVD Deluxe/Expanded CDs of Purple Rain on their website for pre-order. The concert is Syracuse, and there's no second DVD. It's expensive, too: $75.00. I'm actually feeling a bit angry. Fans are just getting milked. Why would they announce 2 live videos and only include one, which is a reissue, anyway? Why would they do that?

EDIT: The Prices on that link are Australian. So not too bad.

Because there's obviously a lack of communication going on within the organisation and they know it doesn't make a difference to their sales to be accurate or stick to plans

So we can confirm Rolling Stone as an unreliable, perhaps even fake, news outlet?

See http://www.rollingstone.c...ic-w466431

.

The reissue pairs the newly remastered Purple Rain with "two incredible albums of previously unreleased Prince music and two complete concert films." The exact contents of that bonus material have not yet been announced.

.

It is that or Warner is just saying something and causing this disappointment.

Perhaps the estate is behind this.

But I cannot tell yet.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

It is a shame that they haven't delivered on the two concert films and the two albums of unreleased music.

But at least we have a choice to not buy the singles collection as there is a two disc option with the PR remaster and the vault CD. I'm ok with this one as I'm not personally too worried about the concert DVD's anyway.

https://store.warnermusic...xe-edition

Both versions available for pre-order at Amazon uk now too.

Expanded at £24.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/...ain+deluxe

And 2 disc version at £15.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/...ain+deluxe

remember that's AUD - circa 50 USD or 40 GBP.

Not exactly cheap but pretty consistant with similar releases (e.g. last year's re-issue of Green by R.E.M.)

£24.99 on amazon.co.uk for the 3 discs + dvd, which actually seems like good value if you want it all.

WB doesn't have access to the vault. They can only release what they already had.

I'm sure the dvd will not be really remastered, like the MJ's videos.

---This does not surprise me at all. They went cheap on Forever and did no promotion for AOA. The know they have a built in audience and her not going to spend a lot of money on marketing and promotion.

I do like that fact they are sticking to the released concert from the era.

.

Keeps the package tidy.

.

I'll happily have unreleased DVDs as seperate purchases.

Good point. If WB doesn't have access to the vault, then how was this ever going to be much of an expanded release? How much of this was set up by Prince and how much is this cobbling together extras afterwards? How do they even have the disc of unreleased stuff considering Universal's deal? Did They always have this?

Now I'm confused ... under 'Product Details' it says 'Number of discs: 1' ... and that's for both of them neutral

Yeah I saw that but I wouldn't worry about it as it's clearly incomplete information with no track lists etc.

Purple Rain deluxe is clearly not their priority.

Cool beans ... might leave it another couple of weeks before pre-ordering then, see what official info Amazon post.

Warner brothers promised 2 live shows from the vault.
We are getting screwed over bigtime.
I hope it's just confusion & will contain
2 concert films

There's certainly no rush to pre-order, but there's also no problem with pre-ordering either. You don't get charged until it ships and can cancel whenever you want before that. Also, if the price changes you'll only ever pay the lower price. So for if some reason these prices are wrong and it releases at a higher price, then you pay the pre-order price. If the price goes down when it releases, you pay the new lower price.

Disappointed tbh, I really hoped there'd be extended 17 days & Wednesday and another live show, preferably the first avenue one.

But... i'm not surprised either. There's a pile of new stuff on there and hopefully the remaster is good, i'll take it!

We're only getting screwed if they had announced a price with that and are now releaseing less at the same price. The price seems appropriate for the content we are given.

I won't argue that we have been misled and I am personally disapointed that we aren't getting two discs of unreleased music, even if it cost more. But we certainly haven't been screwed in any way.

I love EI, but this is really underwhelming, and by no means what they promised in the original press release. I wonder what happened and if the Universal deal has something to do. And it worries me that it is "Prince's vision" that we get as the re-master... Let's hope that he didn't lose his mind and censor the lyrics or re-record parts (with Prince you never know!!).

Darling Nikki is still listed with an E for explicit, so hopefully it's ok. I was worried when I saw that it was listed as a PP remaster, but the explcit tags make me think it's as originally released.

The feeling of disappointment some of us feel is mainly attributed to WB's lack of communication. People was expecting two albums of unreleased music cds and two full concert dvds included because that's what the announcement said. If they would had stated the truth in the first place, there would be an hell of an lot less disappointment.

It's labelled as "2015 PP Remaster", not "Remix" or "New Version" – so unless they are totally bonkers and don't know what they're talking about, this was remastered from the original stereo master, not remixed from the multitracks, therefore it cannot contain any new recordings nor edits performed only on the vocal track.

The idea that Prince censored it is so funny that I almost hope it's true. Imagine it all sounded like 1999 the New Master lol lol
