Dag. Are you folks serious? Prince was dealing with pain management, and responsibly using pain meds. What killed him was a pill that would kill an elephant, which was stamped as a simple Hydrocodone. The inventory report shows several 1/4 and 1/2 cut other pain meds. NOT the sign of an addict. Wake the f@%k up. It appears that he was actually trying to get off his pain meds.

Not true Laura, he had to have been popping pills all week, hence the overdose the week before. The difference was, he was popping the legal pills that were obtained in Kirks name, when he popped the street drugs, is when he died.

I am speaking about the week after the moline incident. We still have no idea other than his trip to see Dr. S and the pharmacy what was he doing on that week. If he was popping pills in a abusive manner from Saturday to the day he died he would have been dead sooner.

We have huge gaps of time during that week were we have no idea what was going on.

I don't think we'll ever know the real truth about Prince's death. I think it all started with not releasing the results of the full autopsy, and cremating his body so quickly. That in itself made it look very supicious, as though they were trying to hide or cover up something. Then you had all the rumors about him having AIDS, and only having a short time left to live, and how his skin was turning yellow, his fingertips turning brown, stomach problems, throat problems, losing weight, etc. Just like everyone else, I've heard all the rumors also, crazy ones that he intentionally killed himself with the drugs because he knew he was going to die soon, and he used the drugs as a cover up because he didn't want anyone to know that he had AIDS. Then you hear others that were close to him, say that he wouldn't touch or do drugs, ever! Then some talk about him suffering from severe hip pain, cancer, etc, etc, etc! Face it, we will never know the full truth, and people are going to believe whatever they think is the truth about Prince and about his death.

Prince had his son cremated and the autophsy was completed how long do you think they should have waited to cremate him another week or so?

I never saw anything about his nails being brown and none of the drugs Dr. S gave him have anything to do with Aids/Hiv so that rumor should pretty much die at this point.

Why can't people believe he was withdrawing from pain pills and things were going badly? Why can't people believe that these pills compremise your overhealth and that he may have been suffering health wise because of the use of the pills. It does not mean he was going to drop dead by the summer but I believe he did have some under lying illness along with the pain pill issue.

Knowing how Prince always wanted to be in control of everything, he most likely orchestrated his own death-- if indeed he had a terminal illness and knew he was dying (his decision to write a memoir, for one, hinted that he was dying)-- by choosing the method (lethal dose of fentanyl), place (elevator) and date he wanted to die (4/21 and the significance of that date). As far as a cover-up is concerned, he probably thought dying of a drug overdose-- like many artists in the past-- won't tarnish his legacy as much as the discovery that he died from AIDS, which sadly still has a stigma, especially in the African American community, at this day and age-- which would raise question about his sexual proclivities (was he bisexual?).

#1 You don't have to be bisexual to get HIV/AIDS.

#2 He didn't kill himself on purpose.

#3 Just because nobody saw Prince do drugs (which I doubt is true) doesn't mean he didn't do drugs, he just didn't do them in front of anyone.

So you're saying you doubt that nobody saw Prince do drugs yet he didn't do them in front of anyone. Both can't be true. confused

Anayway I think it would be impossible for people to not notice unless he was taking stuff for managing chronic pain or some illness. I go back to that 2014 Rolling Stone interview that came out after his passing. The interviewer talked about how alert his eyes were and how his wit was as sharp as ever. I've hear others, who take painkillers for chronic pain, say you would never know they were taking anything. In that case I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't openly taking pills in front of others.

People who are really into drugs don't give a shit. He would have been doing them in front of people and who would have been hanging with other people who used them.

Like I said before estates cannot sue for defamation people are free to say whatever they want and you still hear nothing. Even the chicken head woman are not saying anything.

You may have never saw anything about his nails or whatever, but I have. I've also read about him losing so much weight that his skin was hanging loosely around his neck, which brings to mind all the questions from some that I've read as to why he used to wear gloves and turtlenecks, even when the weather wasn't cold? I've read all kinds of stuff that's floating around out there in the cyber world, and everyone believes what they want to believe, that's why I said that we will never know what happened. Prince's death is just as secretive as his life was.

I don't think it's following a media narrative. For some they believe they're dealing in reality whereas others are living in some fantasy land. But if we want to deal with facts the facts are we don't know how long he was dealing with this painkiller issue. If some want to believe he was secretly hiding a painkiller addiction for 30-40 years they can do that. But all I have to say then is he really was superman doing everything he did in his career while hiding this from everyone (and not abusing the painkillers enough for people to know he was on something or to overdose prior to April 2016). Amazing.

I am an Aussie so pardon the slang but I am "pissed off" with you so called fans. You do not take painkillers unless you are in PAIN. They are not medication for "tripping ang getting a high". They are medication so you can reduce the pain from arthritis or cartilage reduction in joints to be able to simply walk. I have had joint replacements and the pain is so constant that you get depressed and isolate yourself without some relief. Imagine all Prince was doing and being on topof it all with so much pain. Just all GROW UP and get some sensibility to your theories. Yes, he was on pain killers, yes, they are addictive as warned by your Doctor and yes he died from a possible overdose. Two things stand out. 1. Tha Narcan shot would have altered his body chemistry enabling a possible overdose probable. 2 .I believe the Fentanyl (which prince earlier blood tests showed he had no signs of Fentanyl use previously and is a very important point) belonged to a known user of the drug Fentanyl who may have left them where they were mistakenly taken. Either that or Murder. AS SIMPLE AS THAT. Prince knew he had an addiction and was attempting to deal with it.

I think it's important to make a distinction about drug abuse and prescription drug abuse. My grandmother never used street drugs but when she was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, percocet became necessary for pain management. 2.5 mg of percocet was prescribed to her for 7 days at a time and I kid you not within 10 days, just two prescriptions, my grandmother was not only hooked on the percocet she was asking for stronger dosages, eventually begging and crying to her doctor for stronger medicine. Within the 8 months of treatment for cancer my grandma moved up the pain med ladder until she had to be hospitalized and given diluaded, the most potent opiod based medication for pain. Once my grandmother was confirmed as cancer free, her doctor made her go cold turkey. She begged for the meds anyway, making up stories about pain that wasn't there and saying she slept so well with the pills. Eventually she got off them and came to realize that the meds were playing with her mind. There is a scientific reason for this, opiod based meds have proven to be massively more addictive than street drugs. They change your chemical make up and make the pain feel sharper and more powerful over time causing your body to want more and more to quell the pain. Was my grandmother an addict? Fuck you if you think that, she was in pain and wanted a solution, she didn't want the meds for fun or recreation, she didn't put herself in that position, cancer put her in that position. Prince was not an addict, if you think that having pills everywhere is addict behavior; wrong. When my grandmother was in the toughest part of her chemotherapy we had no less than 6 bottles of percocet around the house. When a doctor knows how much pain his/her patient is in, they make sure you've got a solution and enough of it readily available. My mom carried percocet, so did I, so did my Uncle, there was a bottle in the kitchen, the bathroom and my grandma's bedroom. Why? Because when and if the pain hit and say no one was home, if she was in the living room could she make it to the bedroom or collapse? Mind you, we were all in constant contact, letting each other know what she was taking and when and keeping the schedule as directed by the doctor. However, there is this thing that says 'take every 4 to 6 hours or AS OFTEN AS NEEDED FOR PAIN.' If someone in unimaginable pain tells you they need another pill after taking one 3 hours ago are you gonna say no when they are grabbing you and squeezing the breath out of you because they are hurting that bad? Of course not, you're gonna try your best to help them feel better. I say all that to say this; the idea that Prince was some drug addict is way off to me as someone who has seen firsthand what goes on for treatment of pain. I have talked to parents who have kids on these meds who have been diagnosed with horrible forms of cancer, are those kids addicts? You think they want to take these meds? You think Prince WANTED to have percocet all around Paisley Park? He NEEDED pills all around Paisley Park or else he probably wouldn't have been able to function or move when the pain kicked in. The sentiment that Prince's individual fortitude or resolve was lessened by taking these pills is arrogant judgment without knowledge of his actual real pain. Contantly taking percocet weakens your pain center and weakens your 'fight or flight' aka adrenaline, that is probably why he literally died on that plane and for there to be fentanyl around someone who needed to be resuscitated from a perc overdose is at minimum gross negligence. Don't just throw out the word 'ADDICT', the word isn't fair to people with real physical pain they can't live with without taking pills. Don't think that taking pills means the person is weak because fighting through pain is more than just the pills, it takes courage everyday to get out of bed to feel pain and take pills again. The pills are supposed to HELP you fight the pain, they should be augmenting your courage to live and fight through it. I can't tell you how many days my grandma refused them and said she gives up and just let her go. Taking the pain meds was a choice to fight back against the pain not a choice to be weak. This is just a different perspective from the notion that Prince was a weak addict that died from this dark secret. Think about all that Prince was doing in the last year of his life, is that someone who wasn't fighting? Was that someone who was weak in the face of his pain? The fact that he was looking for help to get off the pills and find alternatives to them before he died, does that say he lacked courage and was weak minded? This man went to work everyday.

Great point and eloquently put, it's a shame as there is so much ignorance on this subject.

Thank you for the kindness, it really is a shame that people blindly lump people into groups instead of looking more in depth at the issue and truly trying to understand what is happening to people who take prescription drugs and why those people are taking those drugs.

Polo 1026 Thank you for your reason and sanity to this subject. You are to be congratulated for your presentation of logic.

Margi...queenslander here. lol ..

and YES..Pissed OFF I is how I feel about the insinuation that Prince was

doing anything other than trying to deal with his pain...

Actually most of us here see things just as you have outlined..

there are a few however who delight in painting him as some kind of Drug Addled Zombie , Gratefully this doesnt happen much outside of this community.

The world is willing to align themselves with his Genius and the Gifts he gave, leaving the

Drug Conversation aside for the Most Part..

I do believe the general question, it if is asked at all is

"How did this happen to someone so clean living ?"

and someone earlier said that Princes Death may eventually springboard a global conversation about the Global epedemic of Opiod deaths, that is not really being talked about.

Makes me incredibly sad to think of,

and adds a very poignant dimension to

"I would DIe 4 U"

There is a difference between addiction and dependence. Prince was not addicted to pain medication. He did have a dependence upon pain medication.

Addiction is behavioral. Someone who is addicted to drugs (whether prescription pain medication or illegal street drugs) will act addicted and there will be no question that they are addicted. They will lose their jobs/careers, family, friends, homes, money, etc.

With dependence, the body has become used to the drug and needs the drug to continue to function. If the medicine is stopped or reduced, the body will go into withdrawal symptoms. An individual with dependence is not using the drug to get "high"; they are using the drug to control their pain. However, due to the long-term use, their body becomes used to a dose and more of the medication is needed to manage that pain. Drugs that aren't considered addictive can cause dependence in an individual, such as beta blockers, corticosteroids, anti-depressants. And people can become dependent upon pain medication even by taking the medication as prescribed.

Most chronic pain patients who are taking long-term opiods, usually do not become addicted to the pain medication, but they do develop a dependence and a tolerance of the drug. There was research done in which they looked at 24,000 patients that were on long-term opiod usage for chronic pain, and of those, only 7 could be found that truly fit the desciption of addict.

Some of the ways to tell if a person is addicted is whether they are taking the medications in a way that is not recommended: for instance, they are snorting the drug, shooting it up, or crushing it; they are doctor shopping (Prince didn't even have a regular doctor); they use multiple pharmacies (Prince used Walgreens - as they stated they've seen him come in throughout the years); frequent reports of lost or stolen prescriptions. They also cannot hide that they are using drugs. It is evident. No one suspected Prince was using any kind of pain medication or any drugs period.

So, can we please stop with the "Prince was addicted" narrative? Prince was not addicted, but he did have a dependence upon the pain medication. Meaning his body was used to the medication. I sincerely believe Prince would still be with us if he had not gotten ahold of bad medication that had fentanyl in it and I believe the plane incident ocurred because the medicine was much stronger than he realized.

Great post here !

When the cause of death was revealed it was not surprising because most of us knew the man was suffering with pain from his hips.

What caused alarm for me was this mysterious bottle of Beyer asprin with a surprising amount of pills (64 1/2) for someone to be "addicted". When I read this and with no arrests made it made me think of something I learned a long time ago in criminal investigations.... there are too many coincidences for this to be an accident especially with the way the pills were made.

See the bolded part ^ ....................HUH? Of course people take these drugs (painkillers) to get high. Over here in the states, it's so bad that it has become a nationwide epedimic. They are highly abused drugs here. It's so bad that the people who do need these painkillers can barely obtain them. The abusers of these drugs make these fake pills cut with whatever and in Prince's case, they were cut with a lethal dose of fentanyl. You never know what you are going to get when you buy off the streets.
