HELP: My girlfriend says Prince isn't a good singer!!

To be fair she has not heard many Prince songs. She doesn't like his screams (e.g in Kiss) or his falsetto.

So can anyone here recommend some Prince songs that really show of his vocals/singing voice that doesn't have the above. She probably prefers old school singing as one of her favourite artists is Lionel Richie lol

Man.... what are you doing trying to persuade someone about soul and funk when she's listening to LIONEL RITCHIE??

That's like comparing George Clinton and John "Legend"

Yeah, I don't see a way home from this. She loves Lionel Richie, but hates Prince. Some people just have bad taste. It's kind of charming. Focus on all her other amazing attributes, because I don't think you can save her.

Your girlfriend says he isn't a good singer and then ignores the many examples of his good singing? WTF?

"Oh noez, that good singing doesn't count!"

HAHA...my mission is to find a Prince song she likes vocally. To be fair Prince'ss earlier albums might just please her, 'For You' have some great acapella vocals...and most tracks are fairly pleasing and tame. Although 'I'm Yours' might bit too much to her when it gets to the funky bits...what you reckon ? biggrin

Your girlfriend isn't looking for you to get defensive or respond with reason/logic; she is - however subconsciously - trying to sniff out weakness. She wants to make sure you keep your composure, maintain that Prince is awesome, and blow her off with a "Pfft." That's all this argument she's making deserves anyway. Play Prince all the time around her. Don't go looking for the ultimate Prince vocal. Play whatever Prince you love, no matter how far out. "Scarlet Pussy" should do the trick.

Had a girlfriend of two years who, when we were close to breaking up, threw a tantrum and told me "Prince isn't good, he isn't funny, he's just stupid." Last year at this time all her favourite celebrities were paying Prince tribute. And years after we broke up, I saw her adding likes to facebook posts about Prince. Found myself a girlfriend who loved Prince and caught the Welcome 2 America tour with her.

Game: blouses.

True that. I guess I will just keep playing Prince tracks. I think she really loves it really and likes to see me get excited by his music.

In all the many many hours of live footage of Prince I've seen, plus live shows I've been to, I never once heard the man sing a bump note, never once out of tune.

IMO his voice is his most over looked quality ... he was an amazing singer!

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

But technically, she does have a P connection by liking Lionel Ritchie cuz his adopted daughter, Nicole, is biologically SheilaE's neice, sooo...

If your girlfriend can accept that fact of 6 degrees of purpleness there might be hope for her yet...Otherwise, run away hard and fast before you fall in love, marry, and have children with her...and we all know what Tricky says about that in UTCM..."Don't beleive me? Follow a stupid person home..."

Just sayin

lol

About 100 years ago, when I was approximately 16, I had a boyfriend who listened to Yes and Tangerine Dream all the time. I didn't dig it. But after spending a whole summer hanging out in his bedroom with him, it had grown on me. Just keep playing Prince. She'll learn to love him. After all, as the man himself said: there's joy in repetition. That's an idea, while she's asleep just play that chorus to her over and over and over and over. And in the morning she might wake up and say, hey, I LOVE PRINCE!

Prince's falsetto is one of the best IMO. It sends shivers down my spine! The cool thing is he sings in different ranges, so there any number of songs you could play for her that are not sung in falsetto. But, try Extraordinary or Somewhere Here On Earth. Just beautiful.

Damn U (showcases his range)
Baby (falsetto but wide vocals and runs)
Future Soul Song (his voice is sultry in this one)
Revelation
TIME
Walk In Sand
Here
Te Amo Corazon
Satisfied
If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life
5 Women
17 Days
Dark
Soul Sanctuary

I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

Dump her!!!!.... I'm just kidding. You mentioned old school and Mr Richie... hmmm, how about you play Extralovable or Clouds? Those two jams have an "old school" feel. Too bad she didn't see him live. That would make her take notice. Seriously!
